Grumpy Toad rides again!

Post by Grumpy Toad »

I have not grown during the heat of the summer as I could not control temperature in the tent without freezing out the rest of the house. To solve this (I hope) I purchased a 14,000 BTU portable AC unit. I'm venting the heat from it to the outdoors. I'll just use my inline fan and filter to scrub the air and no longer vent it directly outdoors. I found some good tips on using a portable AC unit and the best tip was to insulate the hot air exhaust. I'm hoping that this will make it more efficient. The other benefit I hope to gain is being able to run my lights at higher wattage. I have capability of about 600 watts from the wall. I'd like to be able to run at or near 500 watts.

A couple other items changed this run: replaced the QB288 boards on my 260 watt HLG light. Some diodes were failing and it was cheap to bring this back to 100%. I'm also switching up my circulation fans this grow. I'm using an oscillating fan on the floor instead of the tower fan. I felt like the tower fan was blowing on the plants too hard. I also am using an Gen 2 AC Infinity 6" clip on. There are a few new features over the first gen fans. You can adjust how wide the fan swings back and forth so it doesn't hit the walls. But the best feature is 100% duty cycle. The firs gen fan said to not run more than 8 hours continuously. In my opinion that make it worthless for a grow.

I've got things cleaned up and re-installed and I and running it now in anticipation of popping seeds on 420! Hopefully have any bugs worked out by Saturday. I have a bunch of new genetics that I'm looking forward to trying this run:

* Cherry Paloma / Raw Genetics
* Georgia Pie / Raw Genetics
* Runtz S1 / Elev8 Seeds
* Frequency Shift (New York City Diesel X Golden Goat) / Irie Genetics
* Fish Scale x Pave / Compound Genetics

Nutrients and such will be the same. Advanced Nutrients: base, Bud Candy, Big Bud & Rhino Skin. I'll also be adding Great White, CalMag Plus and Hydroguard. Grow Medium is the same mixture of Perlite/Vermiculite (4:1) in 3.5 gallon Hempy buckets. I'll use tap water (35 PPM) and aerate and temperature adjust it to 68-79 F.

Making plans with a stoner is like being with a prostitute. They tell you they’re coming, but you know it’s a lie.

Nice one those strains sound good! For the gen 1 cloudray s6 it was my understanding that the oscillating feature was meant to be used for max 18 hours a day, but the fan can be used on constant. What I have been doing is manually switching off the ocillation when lights are off to extend the lifespan, having said that I've had no problems when leaving ocillation on constant (I have it on constantly now while they are hanging to dry) but yeh they are expensive so I've been careful with it. Cheers :cheers:

Both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 are very quiet but I have a Gen 1 and it is now making all kinds of racket in the oscillating mode. Fingers crossed on this one. I will say that if somebody makes a bullet proof clip on fan it will make the others candidates for the dump. LOL
