Week 2 Update fems n autos

Here in week two I'm seeing some nice growth start of the fems with most autos still in the seedling stage. Moving along I'm still in the grow space tweaking mode and look for ways to improve daily.

Today is time for the fems to be fed. Last feeding i bumped it up to 700..oops. Didn't mean to do that on the first week but it happened. They did okay. I'm moving on.

Feminized Ladies

Things happening at the gm440 casa.

*I tell y'all. My mind thinks nothing but growing lately. Expectedly so after all those years on ice..lol
Got a lot to do today. New seed arrives from Fastbuds, need to prep some 3gal pots and get them ready for new life.

*The new Govee remote hygrometer/temp is here for my big tent. So far the temps are doing well in both tents being vented by one fan. I have grown to like the Govee line of things. Their smart humidifier links to this and does it all automatically for me. Just add water.

*A new 6" booster was added to the small tent. I like this little fan. Plastic and lightweight. Nothing but a glorified oversized computer fan really. Has a great speed control included and is very quiet. Moves plenty enough air from the lamp. I plan on putting the new 480w in there. I'm sure it will generate more heat so I'm ready if it does. The 400w will move into the big tent with the 300w Adiding lamp for autos.

*Warming mats...bought two. Never used them before till now. The autos in the promix were so cold. That can't be good. Plugged in the mats and covered it with folded up grow bags and placed tray and pot over the fabric. They seem to get pretty warm so I figured a little buffer would be needed. I don't want them to cook..lol. So I plugged the heater into a timer. It kicks on every so often. Hopefully that will help them develop. Cold roots don't do very well.

*Worm Castings...my favorite foliar spray. I call it my JerryCurlJesus juice. Add a dash of silica and a splash of CalMa. Best shit on the market.. literally..lol

*VPD...made some comments about my lack of good meter readings on this important need in early veg and seedlings. I can now say I'm getting there and the number have been staying close to or dead on the vpd chart.

*I'll be glad when all this tweaking is over but then again I love the challenge of setting up a grow space. Really, we never stop trying to improve. Sometimes we can overdo it and do more harm than good but most tweaks are for the better.ImageImage

New seed has arrived. Soaked beans for bout 12 hours...tails in the paper towel within 3-5 hours. Only one left to go into soil. It's prob cracked and ready as I write this.
This is a mixed bag of autos seed. I could care less what the names are. I'm just trying to fill some jars. Then I will get more selective. Image

Errors of my way Corner

*I honestly believe in the early stages I got a little to aggressive with these lamps. I'm used to a shop light to start my seed and grow young plants. Not this behemoth starship. They are surprisingly powerful. I've since backed off the lamps and am seeing much better new growth.
Also set them to rest 4 hrs a night. Been running 24 lately. New growth is coming out nice n green and the damage is slowly fading into the shadows of the new leaves. I think I'm on the right track here.
*Overfeeding fems n autos..somehow I mixed up some juice to strong. A unintentional error but one that happened none the less. I've not seen any overfeeding signs really so maybe they can handle a lil extra. Bumping it up a little more with the dwc fems to see how they do.
Autos are okay for now. I'm my ignorance of their sensitivity to to much food I may have stunted one or two. Raised the lamp a little to make them stretch out and only ph water this week.
Came across a article the other day about why the auto plant is such a lite eater. The ruderalis which we know is the auto making king is nothing more than simple ditch weed. Weeds require little to survive and the ruderalis is no different. Some of those traits carry over into the end product we grow today. So from now on it's baby steps for feeding automatic strains until I get a grasp on this new age bean.

Training Begins

Stems have hardened up and they are growing fast. Time to start training these ladies how to behave. No need to wait until they hit the screen. Starting the manipulation now will send many branches into the screen as they recover and grow.
Most folks top a plant. I will not. Simple manipulation of the plant will provide branching I need. I get that by getting them as sideways as possible. One stem turns to many quickly as it naturally expands without any damage to the plant or removal of potential bud sites.
I remove random leaves to allow light penetration to the new growth. Throughout the whole grow I remove leaf...never bud sites. Light penetration is the whole reason I Scrog. Flat even canopies need a little thinning at times and leaf blocks a lot of light. Some frown upon leaf removal. I've always found it beneficial.

Scrog Thoughts

Of all the methods to grow out there I'd say the scrog is my favorite. It allows me to grow any strain and control her all the way through. No natural uneven canopy to loose light penetration.
*Another thing I like a lot about the scrog is if done properly I can expose practically every branch the plant has to offer maximum light during flowering without topping.
*Scroggin is labor intensive and very hands on. The biggest advantage with that is your on top of your grow daily. Spotting bugs or deficiencies quickly before damage because your always arm deep in the screen. Hard to miss a problem.
*The Screen to me is one of the most important tools. I've found a sturdy welded wire 2"x3" pattern to work well. Metal screens work better for me. Flimsy nets get the job done but seem more for support of the buds than actual control. Even still, when I see a screen or net on a grow I stop n check it out.
*Having control of a plant throughout the entire cycle is what we do. We provide a suitable environment and then most folks just turn them loose afterwards. With a screen you control every growth spurt and dictate where a branch will end up for the finale. Making sure she get a good seat for the show..lol

Time for an Update

Been a lot happening the past days gone by. I've had more green color emerge in my tents and I'm loving it. All good intentions have bumps in the road and this grow is no different. I'll explain below.

Automatic Strains
These little ladies are all in different time zones but basically pretty close in age. Oldest being 3 weeks today and youngest just days old.

I49 Devil Xxl
4 plants 2-3 weeks in growth. Ive not done anything out of the normal water n feed gig. I do believe I've fed them to much but they are doing okay so far.
ImageImageImageImageImage
The other 4 mixed bag from Fastbuds is still in the seedling stage. I'll spare you the pic..lol. Let's visit them a little later in the month.

Feminized Ladies
All of them are 29 days from breaking ground.
LA Amnesia, Gigabud, Chemdawg millionaire guava

Now here's where we get into a huge issue I found just yesterday. I'm doing the normal daily plant checking and notice right away that the girls look funny. Not as perky as they should be. The lights came on hours ago...what's up?

They may look nice and green and appear okay but those dropping leaves are no bueno. I had been ramping up the light a little and running temps have been going up slightly. My res temps have been on the higher end of the known limits. I'd not checked the roots in a week. I found the issue. Omg what a fucking mess.
I look and see slime. Then I felt slime. Again, no Bueno..lol.
Now I had a decision to make. Scrap the girls or try to save them. So, of course I'm going to try.

I ran to home Depot and bought 3 five gallon buckets and catch trays. These ladies are taking a journey from hydro to peat. Like it or not..lol
I prepped the buckets with holes. Added 2" of clay pebbles, filled with Promix HP Myco. Bam!
Now the tricky part.
I had two plants in one netpot and one in another. I dumped the pebbles and basically ripped the plant from the netpots as gently as I could and planted them in the buckets. It's a desperate move but it has to happen or they would have died. The move from hydro to peat shouldn't be that much of a shock with similar pH needs. Hell, anything is better than what they were living in..lol
Here they sit all battered and broken but alive so far.
I've backed off the lamps intensity and soaked the medium well. They wont need water for days. I found the issue and took action. Now all I can do is wait for a positive response from them.

Other than the plant emergency all has been going well. I'm still tweaking the grow space and learning these led lamps. It been a blast. Hopefully I'll see a explosion of growth soon. Once these ladies get back to growing I'll throw that screen in there and get busy.

Thanks for stopping in. All comments pics or hate mail welcome..lol. Have a great grow day.

I fought that for a while. Hard way to grow if you can't keep root temps right. Good luck on the switch up.
