I've just kicked this one off and thought I'd document the grow as Humboldt Seed Org always seem to be fire
Pinapple skunk I'm going old school with this little Big Bud x Skunk hybrid.
According to the breeder, she's a indica leaning medium sized plant with thick, stinky buds. We'll, let's hope they telling the truth.
This diary may be a little slow at first as I've got to keep this one back for around 8 weeks while I wait for the flowering room to become vacant. For that reason, I've decided to grow the seeding out in coco as Perlite/Vermiculite really needs a dripper if you go much bigger than a foot tall. I water twice daily with just a small plant currently. I just bought a compressed brick of coir from Amazon, then soaked it in some deionised water loaded with calcium nitrate and potassium hydroxide with a PH of 6.2. The coir was a little dirty, but 5 litres later and the PH of the coco was a steady 6.2PH and the water was clear. Finally, I added 10% Perlite. Hopefully I got all the shit out of the coir.
For nutrients I'll be using my own schedule derived from my recent efforts to understand optimal ratios for cannabis based on the several studies published by universities. I'll publish all the figures elsewhere once I'm happy. I'll probably spend at least six months testing before I suggest anyone uses the same. I'm hoping by the end, I can offer a recipe that is optimal for cannabis that people can adopt that's a little more friendly on the environment and steers plants into producing the most secondary metabolites. It won't be organic, but it will be as accurate as you're going to get, backed by real research and easy to follow and without any PK. (Spoiler, CalMag is required
The seed was germinated in a 3" rockwool cube filled with Perlite. Why you ask?... Because that's what I had to hand
PH is 6.2, EC is 0.7. The first stage of my regime starts fairly low for seeds. This will be my first coco run starting seeds using this method, so I may need to up the calcium a little if I start to see any issues. At full strength, there is 140ppm of Ca in solution, so I reckon I'll be fine. We will see though. This programme I'm calling a "run-to-waste" mix as I will use the same for Perlite/Vermiculite if I'm run-to-waste. I run recirculating a little lower as the system recirculates :)
She's in my 2nd smallest compartment and lit with 2 x t5 florescent tubes. Can't get these anymore so I'll replace them with LED once they burn out. The PPFD is 105umol/m2/s measured with my PPFD meter.
She seems happy so far. Only put her in the coco this evening.
