Barneys Farm OG Kush + Anonymous Stardawg cross

Post by seymore_budz »

Hello Gromies!

I'm going to do my best to keep things updated :) Please pester me if I do slack off and you're interested.

So, what do we have here? Two strains from my seed stash :) The first is a OG Kush from Barney's Farm. The second is an interesting cross from a breeder out in Colorado. Stardawg cross with something or another :)

The OG kush is feminised and the Stardawg is a regular bean. I'm playing a little game of Russian Roulette and planting one regular seed. If I get pollen, I'll have some interesting seeds and if I get a female, some interesting clones.

All of my fertiliser solutions use RO water that has also been through a DI filter. EC is 0.0 and PH from the unit is 7, but drops to 5 quickly after mixing as it starts to pick up air while mixing. PH nearly always has to be adjusted up.

Plants were started by soaking for four hours in a 1% peroxide solution with Nitrozyme and a very small amount of base nutrition. Then placed into a rockwoll plug, pre-soaked in a lightly fertilised solution with Nitrozyme, TrickoLogic and CannaZym added. TDS was 1.2EC and PH was 5.8.

Image

After three days, the seeds were transplanted into a 70/30 Perlite/Vermiculite mix and sprayed with the same solution as the rockwool.

These have now been placed under a T5HO 2ft florescent lamp and the PPFD has been adjusted to ~100.

Image

Environmental conditions seem to be OK. Not much control in my little seedling chamber, but it's currently running at ~26C and 70% humidity. No ventilation other than an open door.

After about 5-7 days, these will be moved over into a slightly larger chamber where I have a small 100w LED and more control over the environment.

Image

Thanks for looking. There's not much to show yet. The plan is to grow them out and take cuttings that can be placed within my hydroponics system. The Stardawg will stay in Perlite if its a male and I'll remove it once it's spend it's money

Just a quick update on these. I managed to ruin the first two  I think I got a little carried away with the watering. Rockwoll can hold onto a shit ton of water and I've not used it in a while. Both stunted, one grew with no true leaves and only cotyledons and the other was growing incredibly slowly so I yanked it to see wagwan and it had no root. Just a curly little nub! I threw it, but pulled it out the bin to photograph. Weird AF

Image

So, I either overwatered, or did the stoner mistake of adding 2x nitrozyme or something and turned them funny with too much hormone. It was definitely something I did because both were forked in one way or another and both seed were completely different and from different sides of the planet. That means I can't blame the breeder and save face :) Amateur hour over here!

Anyway, round two and they're looking much better. All of the parameters are the same as previously other than I just dropped these two directly into the media and not in rockwool. Then popped the propagator lid on until they popped their heads up. I wouldn't normally use a propagator lid, but the Perlite/Vermiculite mix is very light. The top layer dries out in about 8-10 hours if not covered. Its fine from about 1" down, so now they're up and growing, I've removed the lid. This time they're growing well and have all their appendices.

Hello guys,

Just moved these into the second chamber and upped the PPFD to 250. I've also created a custom nutrient plan for these. Only added two weeks to the grow as I can just repeat until I'm ready. This chart shows the maximum dilution rate per week. This may be reduced if the VPD gets wild. I've not got much control over the environment until these make their way into the main chamber.

The OG Kush is a little ahead of the Stardawg.

Feed will be increased to week 1 on Friday. I'm just spraying the top of the media atm. On top of the base nutrients, they're getting a little Nitrozyme and Cannazyme.

They're pretty decent if you use them correct. They're deceiving little bastards though as they feel dry to touch, but loaded with water. Been a while as I've been using peat pellets for a couple of years and they constantly n3ed watering. Think I applied the same principle to rockwool and failed :) Funny thing is I cut my teeth with rockwool over 20 years ago

Hey GR420,

Thought I'd post a small update. Seedlings are about a week or so old now. The OG Kush is growing well, but the stardawg cross ain't happy.

Plants are om week 2 of my nutrient schedule currently. EC is ~1.8EC. They're being hand watered daily with about 500ml of solution. This gives me around 30% run-off.

Still sitting about 200PPFD. I think it was a little high at first, but they've acclimatised to things now.

The stardawg will he going in the bin. Just curious to see if it grows out of its current state.
