Re: All aboard the auto express
Gotta agree the early part is a PITA . I'd think light and heat from top would help them want to break the surface.
Anyone that has time for drama is not gardening enough.

Re: All aboard the auto express
I did think this , might have to go in the garage and sort it out then. It’s still a mess from last grow lol
Might leave em in heated prop and put led on low from above ,

Re: All aboard the auto express
Your pots look quite wet for the seeds bro? Possibly thats why they take so long...Paul_led wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 10:03 pmSo after a slow start I put the plates in a heated propergator , 24 hours later all have cracked , some better than others , but I have potted em up anyways ,
I have put the pots back in the heated prop and put on a south facing windowsill,
Am I beat leaving them on the window ? Or is it better to get them in a tent under led ? Or leave in dark till the surface ?
I hate this stage , if it can go wrong for me ….. it usually does lol

Re: All aboard the auto express
It’s coco mate that I had to give a rinse through with ph’d water , they feel like they have drained this morning so hopefully if we get a bit of sun today we will have lift off,
I’m not busy this evening so I’m gonna get in the garage tent and get it cleaned down and get an led panel ready to put above the little babies
I just hate this stage , I’m always second guessing myself ,
The coco I have also has charge in it ? I never realised so I gave it a proper wet as I have no idea what this is , sounds like some food ? I guess that could be why I had problems last time ,

Re: All aboard the auto express
Fair enough...I've fallen foul of drenching my 15l coco pots when transplanting which has drowned my babies. But if those small pots you should be fine I would have e though.Paul_led wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 9:16 amIt’s coco mate that I had to give a rinse through with ph’d water , they feel like they have drained this morning so hopefully if we get a bit of sun today we will have lift off,

I wait till I have bigger tap roots then put in pots, and it seems to do the trick. Seedlings in coco's do take a little longer. I hate this stage too.
I'm sure you'll be fine mate, you knock these autos out of the park.

Re: All aboard the auto express
I bloody hate this stage !!!
Out of the original 5 only the Girl Scout cookie and the jack herer surfaced from the coco,
So I put in another seed of the wedding cake , star dawg and glue berry , and no sign of them again ,
As I said the jack herer and Girl Scout came up and I have now put the propagator in the garage tent and plugged in to keep the small pots warm and they are under the led light

Do you guys and gals go STREIGhT into coco ? Or do you use fiber plugs or them rooting things ?

Re: All aboard the auto express
Straight into coco with a weak nutrient solution. Jiffy plugs gave me mixed results..but because I forgot to squish and then went too damp and moulded the seedlings.Paul_led wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 9:33 pmI bloody hate this stage !!!

I used paper towel initially to ensure I have a long taproot.

Re: All aboard the auto express
I was using root riots with a high sucess rate until recently, last time I used them the results were poor (about 60% germination) and I've heard they had changed the composition of the cubes in some way. Went back to the old method of straight into coco and got 17/18, I don't really like the paper towel method tho - I've lost a few seeds this way. Probably too heavy handed
cheers

Re: All aboard the auto express
To add...I use "Plenty" kitchen towels and into a takeaway container. One sheet folded in half at the bottom of pot, drop my seeds in and then another sheet over the top..I press gently to ensure they are touching both sides of kitchen towel. Both tissues moist..Close the lid and into the airing cupboard. Dark and warm

Re: All aboard the auto express
I do the paper towel thing till it has a nice big tail coming from seed and shell is not far from falling off. I add it to coco so i can see shell head and then i sprinkle a little coco over shell, not even a mm, usually its showing next day if its not i just give a light foliar spray again.
Sometimes shell is completely off in paper towel so i plant with the small head just breaking ground. I do use silicon tipped tweezers to do all this.
