Less waste bigger risk of fuck ups for shit like root rot.
Understood bro. Thanks. I thought it would have been similR as roots sit around clayballs which hold moisture etc
The old school 10plant nft trays i used you couldn't really use clayballs they only took rockwool blocks. I suppose theirs diff types of nft these days feck knows tbh.

No that's what I've got..a gt205 I think..1 plant system.

Sorry what I meant was that roots around wet clayballs vs roots in water...won't it have the same effect? Sorry bro for the confusion

Water is a bit faster initially than coco or clay balls, but i would say coco yields stack up just as much as water growing by chop time. Coco is a great allrounder, maybe im a bit biased but i can`t ever see myself growing in water again. The system you have you dont have to use coco i mean perlite is a good hydro medium as are those clay balls, but yes again coco is as good but has extra goodness in it, shit like naturally occurring Trichoderma and such like. You`ll crack that system you use in no time Wu. Auto-pots are a top hassle free typo jobby as well which is a big tick in itself. When i first grew in auto-pots i used clay balls and the small square groden rockwool cubes in a 50/50 mix. But i was soon turned onto coco once i used it, my plants were much bigger overall and yield was higher. Tis very much so a versatile system. 8-)

Thanks for the advice bro. Appreciate it.

What I can't get my head around is that even if I layer my clay balls 2inches up..they will still be wet as they soak the water from the tray, which then presumably the roots wrap themselves around..so they would still be wet all the time.. or don't they wrap themselves around the clay balls..? I.e. if this is the case, and my roots are going to be exposed to the same amount of water.. why have I potentially got root rot

What are the chances she's going to swell..let's see if the flush and the roots bullet can save the day. No growth from what I can see since. Although I only added bullet into the res yday.Image

Yes they do but i really think your plants caught or became infected with root rot early on when theirs not so many roots to deal with the wet soggy bit down bottom of pots. Clayballs are more aerated than coco or lets say dont become as wet and soggy as coco and they don't hold on to no where near as much water, so when plants are young with not so many roots down bottom of pots, its gonna be wettest it will get and i think they can cope with it better if your using clayballs over a wetter substrate like coco is. When plants have shit loadsa roots its not soggy long enough down their for it to be a problem. Well thats my take on it anyhow Wu right or wrong tis how i see it. 8-)

Nah that's spot on dude. Kinda how I saw it. I think my main issue was drenching the 15l bucket during transplanting..it takes an age to try. Next time 200 to 300ml around the plant per day until the system is ready to go. Thank you Scoopsy...this is how I learn. Much love.

I think your best soaking your pot full of coco initially then giving lesser feeds like you mention till roots spread properly and they will spread into your damp areas that you've wet all-over once to start with pretty easy, its when its constantly wetted up and they dont have lots of roots that does or may cause root problems

Bro that's what I did..bit they took an age to dry out..almost like 2 weeks till fully dry. I tested this with the initial sherbet that I killed...until.the 2nd attempt seedling was ready to put in the pot..which I then took your advice and gave only a few mls around the pot.

So maybe I need to pre-soak a week before? Also ensure pebbles are layered to 2 inches.

What's the risk of not pre soaking the coco? Presumably the roots won't be able to get any food if they spread beyond the perimeter of where you are giving small amounts of food

Its just how ive always done it Wu. basically i just soak my pots with a low strength fert mix just before i pot up so its got a nutrient mix in, i then feed a little around plant every few days. My thinking is plants will go hunting nutrients. You dont really wanna be having plants in dry coco, they will prolly yellow up and roots wont spread as they should, where as with the initial first soak/feed they will spread steady away like, but im also keeping them happy giving a little feed around plant every few days.

Interesting bro.

So do you soak the big pots of coco that the plant is going to be transplanted into on thE day of transplanting? Or sometime before?

I think my issue is the clayball theory..not enough of them..as I mainly saw issues during late veg / early flower IIRC.
