If that's a worry I would think you could go to the hardware store and change out any hoses or connectors with ones with a larger interior diameter and add any cleanouts and or valves. I mean in my opinion the autopot system is really about the float valve system to feed the system. Honestly if handy, making something in the plumbing supply aisle really shouldn't be all that much of a challenge. Not knocking the autopot but it's not all that specialized in a plumbing sense. Definitely not knocking it, I actually believe it convenient (rather than building one like it) and effective.
Sorry dude my reply may have confused you. I'm new to the Autopot so was just trying to gauge what to do. I'll deffo be draining it once a week..I don't want any blockages for sure.

I agree if you're handy with tools and putting stuff together it wouldn't be that complex to set up...it is really quite simple..for me I'd probably struggle with the valve bit.

Good to hear from you mate.

oh no worries brother wasn't like that lol. Just expanding on the thoughts about the system. I've considered buying one TBH then took a real look at what it is and arrived at the conclusion. I do see the value in the convenience of not having to build a system especially in a smallish space. All good.

Yeh man so just shut the valve tank side and give the float valve holes a lil clean to remove anything that may build up, maybe give them lil rubbers a squish every once in a while and pop them back in and make sure your juice flows in and the floats close properly. If they get stuck they'll most often be stuck open and not closed if it ever happens. Oh before you do any maintenence make sure you turn the flow valve off tank side and let the plant drink whats in the tray first.

Mr @2-Scoops is good with these

So presumably I'd turn it off one day..wait until the plants have drank all the nutes..and then, clean valves squish the silicone bits, and then turn valve on and open up the end valve to check flow and clear any build up in pipes..probably let 500ml or 1l through? The grow shop said I could put this back into the reservoir?

Thank you @Nom

I never turn off the system and mess about mate ,
I did 6 continuous months rotating autos with no let up or cleaning g out trays and valves etc , I really think you are overthinking it a little .
Why have you put trays under the auto pots to lift them up ?

Paul

Overthinking...yes that's certainly me mate.

So theyre in the shed. The tent sits on th3 cheap rubber type matting but thats it. The floor gets cooler at night and so didn't want the roots to get cold at night, so I thought I'd lift them up..similar to my two soil grows but they were sitting on some drainage stands inside these trays.

Just check it out and make sure shits clean between grows and jobs a good en, maybe run it through with some strong h202 if you like. But I`m with Paul on this their really shouldn`t be a reason for faffing around with system once its working during a grow. If anything i had a problem with was the valve sticking from time to time but this was with the very first system they made, the float valve has changed quite a bit since just looking at it so it may not be prone to stickling anymore. Roots can be a problem if they grow into valve but that's easily sorted just dont let them escape pots on mass, but it wont hurt too much chopping odd root if it does escape and look like its heading towards valve every now n then. I mean tubing can become gunked from time to time depending what you giving plants in your mix, but you can buy a few mile worth of tubing for about a tenner and change it every grow or two to be sure shit doesn't become blocked if your that way inclined. Tbh only thing i ever used to do was tap top of float valve if it became stuck every now n then to start it up i may have changed tubing once, it was long ago in early noughties so tis pretty vague now. But that's about all maintenance needed if your gonna have to do any :nice:
