We've just opened up 3 old fireplaces at ours
We would do the same, but the house owner put in an electric heater where the coal used to go.

For those who are thinking of reopening their old fireplaces, get your chimney cleaned first. There have been instances where the chimney stack has caught fire due to old soot.

I keep mentioning Martin Lewis here @The Aspie Toker in this thread but by not paying DD your actual increase in energy bills will be 60% You also need to take a meter reading on 31st and let your supplier know just so the cheeky coonts don`t charge all your new bill at 54% increase and the cheeky bastards will given a chance.

Check the video out in link.

Thanks, mate. I'm reading it atm. She doesn't want DD though. We don't want a smart reader either. We couldn't afford huge DD when they'll often take more than the actual bill. It's swings and roundabouts.

I think we've had the heating on since before December and only a handful of days when it's been off. We are both disabled and the house is draughty. The wife, along with other skeletal ailments, has fibro, and for me, I have cancer in the bones. Cold never used to bother me, but it does now. Once the bones start hurting, you need to get warm.

We've been paying a green :idn: levy on our energy bills for years.
Supposed to be invested in renewables.
So where is all this green energy when you need it? Nowhere to be seen
All this carbon neutral bollocks has put us in a weak bargaining position.
We've just opened up 3 old fireplaces at ours. Couple of old tyres will burn for age's.
Renewable energy is actually cheaper to produce and sell on than carbon based energy, the problem is bloody Government has put between a 12% and 20% levy/tax on renewable energy (different numbers slung around goggle and it was a quick search) so its more expensive for the customer and according to Government it is to be reinvested into renewables. But its prolly more like so the energy giants can compete with renewables and carry on making billions from carbon based energy which is heavily subsidized by Government as well in form of tax relief, that is my view on jobby anyhow. Seems to me like rich getting richer and poor are getting poorer, nowt changes hey.

Around 42% of UK energy produced last year was from renewable energy. Scotland in 2020 97% of it was from renewable energy according to a quick goggle check

Good perspectives here gents I've cut my grow room energy use by about a third because of the rises. The problem is energy isn't the only thing rising its everything we will all be tightening our belts this year for sure. Good Post bulls.
