This might be a dumb question.. but having only grown with that low wattage LED I’m not sure what to expect! And if it will be worth the extra £10 a week or so in electricity?

That 400 watt hps will absolutely destroy a cheap led light, I'd bet my house on it. unless you're talking invisible sun or hlg but those are quality led's
Get that light way closer to your tops, I'd start with 18 inches. To eliminate hot spots you can also open that reflector up a lot more with a piece of metal wire, and make sure the reflector is facing the right direction

I`m with Josh and i think, well i know it will. I do summink similar, i veg under led (100watt) and mh (250watt) combo and switch the MH bulb out for 400 hps bulb for flowering mixing it still with the 100w led light, just for a broader colour spectrum of light for plants uu-va-voo`ness. Ive used decent 350watt samsung QB light and get nothing close to what a 400hps light does. I use the omega dual sopectrum bulbs with a digital variable wattage ballast, i also use mh bulb for vegging and also a full on red spectrum 400w in flower at times during early phase of flowering, it just depends what i feel like on day i suppose. :)
