Hey GR420,

Here's my end of the week update. They plodding along OK :) Got caught by a little calcium deficiency as per usual but I think I caught it nice and early this time as they are now growing again. Couple more weeks and these hens will be ready for the dinner table.

They starting to smell a bit. They smell quite fruity actually, I'm liking the smells coming off them at this early stage.

Temperature has been a little high and at some times has hit 30C they don't seen too bothered though.

Hey GR420

Just a small update, I've been battling with heat the last week or so as we've had quite the heatwave here in the UK. It's been manageable but defo took the wind out of my sail. On top of that, I've been struggling with Ca def and N toxicity due to N also being in my calmag. The soil had to calm down a bit before I could start adding more calmag to the water so I has to do something despicable....... use tap water :'( I didn't want to and only for one feed but I actually needed some calcium without N and council pop is free and always available.

I've managed to stabilise everything and they are now enjoying a break from the heat as I had a shuffle about, moved the veg tent, added some extraction to the room and improved the overall environment. They have also been treated to a new tray and light hangers :)

These will be on the chopping block in a week so this will be the last time you all see them in batmix. Their final destination awaits. I'll make it as quick and as painless as possible :)

N toxicity creeps up on my arse ...

Bloody hell, next level skills there Grumpy. Have you run Humbolt before? I've got some sugar breath in the seed collection. I've heard good things about HSO.

Thanks TicTok! No, this is the first run of anything from HSO. I had a dabble with some of the cali stuff back in 2010 but the skywalker OG from Cali Connection was sub-par so I went back to my dutch strains but a lot has changed in a decade and I'm loving some of the stuff coming out of Humbolt now :)

They smell amazing so I'm looking forward to trying these.

Superb, I'm subbed. I keep hearing the US strains are getting superior to the Dutch. All sorts of rumors of some Dutch seed companies outsourcing everything to Spain and QA becoming lacking. That's one reason why I opted for Bodhi gear. Who knows, I'm sure there is still fire in Holland but I think things are changing. Anyway, apologies, off topic. Your plants look great!

hey GR420,

These have now started to root but some interesting developments so I thought I'd post

1) The room is setup ready for these :)
2) Look how much they grew while rooting! And they still don't have a rootsystem as of taking these photos!

Day 1

Day 5

3) I had some real bad bacterial growth around the drippers that nearly finished these off! Check this

Hey GR420,

I fear this grow is already over :( bacteria growth had taken over. They were wilting this morning. When I checked the white snot was everywhere. It had blocked up all the drippers, massive lumps were in the pump and it was attacking the plants.

I've bleached everything, disinfected the equipment, cleaned out the drippers with pure alcohol and a toothbrush and washed off what I could of the snot off the cuttings.

In the process the propagator lid fell on everything and squashed the lot including my seedlings. It's days like these I just feel like ripping it all up and not bothering.

Fingers crossed but I'm not confident. I fear the end is nigh.

hey GR420,

So yea.... I've had my arse kicked and handed back to me battered and bruised! I've not got lots of time so this will be brief.

First, I got the spunk fungi. It attacked everything, nothing would kill it including hard core disinfectant and liquid oxygen. It sticks to everything including the stems and sprayers and pumps. And when I say stick, running the stem under a tap on full power did not remove it and I ended up having to remove the new growing roots to get rid of it.

After getting rid the first time, it came back! After doing some experimentation, I can reliably replicate the spunk under control by just adding superthrive to water. I've used superthrive for years and never had an issue so I wonder if I just have a bad bottle. I won't be risking further losses so I won't be adding it into my propagator any time soon. I like adding NAA but it ain't no good if it grows spunk and not roots.

Next, thrips came along and started munching at everything! I think they got in hitching a ride on my dog but who knows. They were cleaned up pretty quick using plant invigorator but they had just seen the light and been resurrected from the death spunk.

Finally, I caught a real bad case of fungus gnats. So bad that in 24 hours, I had about 100 gnats jumped out of the pots if I thump the floor. I nearly threw the towel in at this point! But got my money out and dropped £20 on some tanlin. Gnats have all gone in 48 hours. Tanlin is fucking awesome!

So, the damage :( I lost 2 completely to rot and spunk, a further three to stress of all the above although they probably would of came back and I have 15 left. 12 are looking well and are growing vigorous now and 3 are .... surviving :) they have all now filled the small pots with white roots but the really bad three are looking worse for wear.

This has completely changed my plans. I can't risk an outbreak of super spunk in my amazon so I've abandon that ship and I'll be running 9 of these as a SOG in my 1m tent in 11ltr pots and my coco/batmix blend. Normal service will resume from now :)

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger hey! What a couple of weeks. If I'm honest, I've been giving myself a slap on the back for saving these :) I really thought I'd lost the mangos for good. If you feel like you're fighting a loosing battle or things go south, don't panic, think methodological and preserve and all will come right in the end.

Dodgy ones holding on for dear life.
