Re: Minty Grow Diary - GR420 LED Grow Off
If I had one bit of advice (apart from wear sun screen) about my leaking problem it would be to:-
NOT use these and to use these instead - for a round pipe (which most are) the latter works so much better, especially when the pipe and host are not a good fit. Trust me.

Hey minty
looking good bro
Was just gonna mention for next time, use smaller net pots and you will get roots busting out way faster.
It will also allow your water level to be deeper.
I'm sure you've thought of this by now but just checking
No need to worry about the net pot being too small, I've grown trees in 3 inch ones

Thanks Josh,
I think the autos are doomed now so might be 'chucking them to the sheep' and starting again with a photo mother plant (exactly like you originally told me when I first came here) once the temps are under control. "Josh, was right" is pretty much my conclusion on that whole chat to be fair. PLUS I do have alternative seeds now thanks to the GrowRoom420 Crew. Just need to win me another tent, and a light ;o)

Not sure what you mean by 'water level to be deeper' ? Do you mean just while they are in veg and then transfer into larger net pots or in just smaller in general? I have kinda just been watering them and not letting them sit in water but still can't move them into the pots/tent due to the extreme heat I am seeing in the loft. 40℃ during the day means the loft is a no go at the moment and I need to come up with a plan sharpish. Ordered a water chiller but not so sure that is going to be enough on it's own.
Sorry, real new to the hydroponic side especially the germination in hydroponics - did not prepare for any of that shit. The net pots I have kinda come with the IWS Spares which I based my build around so fit the lids etc and I never considered different sized ones.integrajosh wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 2:29 amuse smaller net pots and you will get roots busting out way faster.

Hey buddy, sry I wasn't more clear. What I meant was, the smaller the net pot is (smaller meaning less height) the less it will hang down into the reservoir, therefore, you can have the water level deeper. Hope that makes senseMinty wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 7:07 pmThanks Josh,

They look good man might as well keep them alive. They in the system yet? Or still handfeeding?

No worries Josh, definitely me who is not getting it, and to be honest I still don't. I understand the height thing but by 'water level deeper' do you mean there is more water in total (to now get to the net pot) or do you mean there is more 'air gap' between the net pot and the water? i.e. the water is lower? I don't mean to be dumb but there are so many different way of 'doing' hydroponics I am still unsure as to what you actually meant and would rather understand your advice as I do take it seriously.

Hi Marcus,Marcus wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 8:00 amMinty,
Have you got those plants in the res yet?
See, when I did hydro I used to put the day old seedling straight in the net pot and straight in the res with the airstone running and everything. Took a week or so for the roots to hit water and BOOM they were off like a rocket then. Daily top waterings, but cause the system was running the roots went straight down where they were meant to be going.

No, they are still not in the tent yet due to my concerns over the heat (currently sitting at 33℃ with the water at 30℃) but they both ready and showing roots now so they do need to go in. Not sure what to do, as they are doing OK although starting to really stretch but I don't want to cook them in the loft either.
My water chiller turned up today but they missed a load of the fittings off the order so hopefully get that resolved in the next day or two... I would be happier if the water temperature was at least controlled.

Re: Minty Grow Diary - GR420 LED Grow Off
I got the Hailea HC150A mate. Just trying to work out if I can plumb it in without using the additional pipe (which never arrived) and pump. e.g. go from my main recirculating pump into the chiller then into the pots rather than just recirculating the water in the res<-->chiller with the other pump doing res<-->pots.
Personally can't see any downside to not running the separate pump as both pump need to running 24/7 anyway and it's not like the chiller pump can come on as required as the chiller is monitoring it's own water temperature (and switches the compressor on as required)

Thanks Marcus.
Got a couple of videos to show you how it went...
I'll be honest, this bugged me (in a good way ;o) So they are in, fuck it. The whole point of this grow is to evaluate the automation so I might as well treat this as an 'Edge Case'. Thanks Marcus, just the kick in the arse I needed mate.
