Looking back, it did seem like the beginning of N toxicity 👍 but I would just leave the EC where it's at now buddy, no need to drop more imo. They'll be blowing up real soon, gonna need those nutes aye? 💪

Got given a echotechnics today. Had to collect it from a box in a friends garden. He told me it had been in the box for 5 years and recently got left outside and was soggy wet. Drained it off, cleaned it up and it actually works :) Can't beat a bit of old school electronics. The sensor is knackered I think. The temperature is spot on but the humidity low. I have two other sensors in there reading 60% but the controller is reading 39% I'll grab a new one at some point :)

Hey all,

Here's my full weekly update.

There's been a fee changes to the room and feeding. I'll explain in more detail below.

I've added a environment controller!!! Got it for free but had to buy a new sensor as the one that came with it wouldn't calibrate and was knackered. It's working a treat! Environment is solid now and the fan barely spins up over 40% so got a noise reduction too. It's the Ecotechnics environmental controller unit. Love it :)

The changes to the feed schedule are as follows.

1) add a little CaMg! I was noticing some more Ca def on the older leaves so I've started adding 100ppm Canna CaMg.

2) Swapped the potassium silicate for potassium hydroxide. I was needing to put too much in on topups and the KOH is much more effective at increasing the PH.

3) Added some mammouth P. It's a bacteria additive that gives you a shot of Phosphate solubilizing bacteria. It won't unbalance my system and will give the overall beenie population a boost. And it was free :)

Plants are doing OK, bit of tip burn but it's growing well. They are gobbling up 7+ litres of water a night and EC continues to drop but not so aggressively since I've been adding CaMg. I don't know if this is a result of that or the stage of growth, or even environmental changes due to the addition of a controller.

I'll start doing some videos soon when I can be arsed to edit them lol

PS: I'm trialing a aero cloner. Probably fuck it up but need the practice for a future project so trialing it. These are 48 hours in the system.

It's hard to fuck up with the cloner Matey. Basically just put them in ans don't switch it off for a week and they be rooted lol. Fastest was 3 days for me! Ah and i find out 18/6 works better and cheaper.
Also mammouth p didn't make much difference to me in coco i believe because coco doesn't have any bacteria in it lol. Ecotechnics is great mate been using for years. Probably best bit of kit i ever bought.

Cheers for the pointers bulls! I've had the lights on for 24 hours but I'll try 18/6 next time. Someone suggested 6/2 cycles too? You ever heard of this?

You're probably the opposite mate, coco is full of bacteria and probably has those PSB's are probably already in abundance so adding it wouldn't of made a difference.

The ecotechnics controller is amazing! Keeps the environment spot on and my fan hardly hits 40% now! Love it mate :)

Hey All,

Here's my weekly update. There's been some more minor changes to the set up so I'll cover those first. The first addition is a new circulating fan. and the second is a powerhead. I've got quite a lot of root now in the reservoir and I've been running beanies in the tank. The water temp sits around 25C but there's no splash where the return water used to fall down back into the reservoir. That splashing is what breaks the surface of the water and helps keep the DO high. If the DO runs low, it causes anerobic bacteria to thrive and cause root rot. For this reason, I've installed a powerhead with a venturi pipe to break the surface of the water and also add a little air to the mix too. When I top up, I also mix in the feed tank so this has an added benefit as I can squirt the required additives at the inlet and it will mix things up quick.

Plants are still a little up and down. I've done a lot of research and still I'm not 100% I have this down. The PPM drops rapidly so I have to keep adding a shed load of grow to keep it up. That would suggest that they're hungry as per the guide integrajosh shared suggested. I've also done a little reading and all the activity suggests I'm underfeeding. I'm also getting a Ca def if I run the res below 1.5EC. I was getting some yellowing tips that would suggest I was over feeding and I was worried about N again so dropped things but this made it worse so I'm back up to 1.7EC now. I think the yellowing tips are not burn but in fact some immobile def like Calcium or Sulphur. They're not burning but are more yellowing and that's what makes me think the issue all along has been deficiencies. Looking back at the symptoms and where it all started to go a little wrong was when I dropped the EC as it got hot. I think I've been chasing my tail since then. You read a lot and everyone has their own opinions on EC but I feel like nutritional requirements is heavily tethered to environment. It's just a hunch but that's my train of thoughts are heading at this moment in time. I've been adding CalMag but keeping the EC around 1.5 and that has exacerbated the issue and thrown the mix way out of balance. The PH is rock solid and I've been testing the meter every few days as I'm paranoid about that but it's been spot on every time I've testing both PH and EC on the meter. I think I just got talked into thinking it was me overfeeding by a friend. He's a knowledgeable guy and has many years experience in hydroponics but I don't think he has much experience with RO water and running hard water is completely different.

Anyway, I'm going to stop reading horror stories about people running high EC and burning the shit out of their crops and trust my inner voice on this one and get the EC up and steady around 1.7. I also feel like the air movement around the plants wasn't up to standards as the large monkey fan I have is too powerful to blow on the plants so it blows the void between the lights and canopy. I've added the clip on fan as stated above to add a bit more movement around the plants. Hopefully that helps them to transpire and speeds things up a bit too. Time will tell hey. If I see major clawing, I'll dial back again.

Anyway, I've been talking things down but it's all not so bad, the plants look healthy still and are growing well (except the runt). The biggest one is trying to bust out of the net but I'm holding back for the others to catch up a bit but I think I'm going to have to turn them over in a day or so or things will get out of hand. The Blue Gelato 41 is quite a tall plant according to the breeder so I don't want to end up the same as last time and have leggy sativa that I can't manage. If I have a gap then so be it :oik!:

Oh and they have had two crazy hair cuts

Roots are looking crazy!! Enjoy the pics and hopefully on the next update it's still good news.

Some monster stems on those fuckers
1.7 does sound pretty high, but like you said already, no two environments are the same.
With a different nute line, you might be running even lower or higher, who knows

I think it's good that your ph is stable, as long as the ppm only drops throughout the week that's totally fine buddy. I feel like when the plants are really packing on weight during the stretch, especially in aero, they're gonna be hungy

Hey all,

Here's my weekly update. The plant at the back right has turned into the light hogging monster and has started taking over the tent. It's really stretching its legs atm. What a bully!

Looks like the EC increase done the trick and no more signs on Ca, Mg, Sulphur or anything else. I'll be gradually increasing it slightly over the next week to 10 days 2.0EC as I transition into the flowering nutrients. They're still in grow mode atm and producing a lot of leaf. I'm pruning them back but they just keep coming and aggressively I can't keep up.

Temps here are up as well as humidity down so I'm seeing a slight increase in EC over a few days now as the water level falls. The PH is solid and very rarely moves. When it does, it's normally because I topped up.

The Runt has been taken over by the one on the right lol you can barely see it anymore :)

Nutrients are still the same apart from one amendment. All the extras like bio-crop, bio-roots, enzymes, humine-ex and a little mammoth-p are going in but I've started to add a little Hesi supervit. That will add some vitamins, L amino acids and hormones which are probably lagging a bit. This should give them a kick up the arse as well as improve resin and terpenes content as well as act as a stress reliever and all round plant booster. I could add it but due to the system being low pressure, I'm paranoid about buildup around the sprinklers. Maybe next time hey?

Hopefully on the next update, we should be able to see the start of some crowns. Oh and the roots!!! Wow they are massive and absolutely everywhere! So many roots it's too heavy to lift the lid now and they spring out of the front if you do manage to lift it so no root photo today lol.
