Malana Bomb Autos Barney’s Farm

Post by TTL »

I figured I’d try my hand at keeping a grow diary. I’m sure I’ll be thoroughly embarrassed by my lack of knowledge throughout, but there’s only one way to learn... This is going to start at day 32 of the grow. It’s 32 days starting from when I put the seeds in the soil after soaking them in a glass of water. I feed them with RO water and Botanicare CalMag Plus (2.5ml per gal). Every other grow I add in 1ml per gal of Fox Farm Grow Big. Not comfortable with nutes and feeding yet. I’d like to find a new lineup of nutes. Currently just have the Fox Farm trio (Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom). I feed when I lift the pots and it feels ready. I would definitely like a more accurate way of doing that. Ha. I water to the point that I end up with about 20% runoff. This is my second grow. I knew nothing about it until the end of last October.

Seeds: Malana Bomb Auto x3 from Barney’s Farm
Medium: 80/20 mix of Fox Farm Happy Frog (80%) and Fox Farm Ocean Forest (20%)
Pots: 5 Gallon VivoSun Fabric Pots on Go Pro NX Level 13” elevators and in Hydrofoam Green Premium 14” saucers
Tent: Vipar Spectra 60”x60”x80” Reflective 600D Mylar
Exhaust fan: AC Infinity Cloudline T6
Filter: G-Hydro 6” Air Carbon Filter Upgraded Hexagonal Hole With 1200+ RC48
Fans: Genesis 6” Clip Convertible x2
Dehumidifier: Frigidaire 70 Pint
Light: Niemi LED something something RSPEC quantum board. Seems they were ripping off HLG and I can’t go back to their site to find the name of the light. Ha.
Humidifier: I’ll update this with the info later, because I can’t remember right now.

Please, feel free to ask away with questions. I welcome and thank you in advance for all questions, constructive criticism, and tips. On a daily basis I’ll post pictures, current temp, current humidity, 24 hour high and low for temp and humidity, when I feed/water them, what I feed/water them with, and whatever else may come along.

These were just the three free promo seeds I had leftover while awaiting new seeds. Not a choice I would make myself, but they’re certainly better than nothing. Ha.

Lights are on a 20/4 light schedule and are off from 2-6 PM daily.

Just turned the lights off. 72.3* at canopy level. Leaf surface temps in the 68*-69*ish range. 49% humidity. These readings were before I turned the lights off.

You 100% have a magnesium (not calcium) deficiency, about to hit real hard if you don't get it in check. Hit with a foliar spray, twice per day, of epsom salt (google the dose I can't remember)
This is just a band-aid so to speak though, not a permanent fix

Let me look at your original post and I'll think of nutrient schedule to follow, I used to run fox farms trio in soil also

Edit: ok so ya, you need to start following the fox farms feed chart but only half strength, those are good size plants. Happy frog is a very weak starter soil that has almost no nutes, would have been better to do a small layer of happy frog and fill rest of the pot with the ocean forest

Go ahead and foliar spray with epsom like I mentioned, then go feed/feed/plain water. Don't worry too much about runoff with soil, just a very tiny amount will do. We don't want to leach all of the nutes out of it

Also, get those pots off the ground so air can circulate properly and the roots won't be damp all the time (or are they off the ground?) I can't tell from the pics

Oh, and your feel/lift method for watering is perfect

This was just the soil I had leftover, because I used mostly Ocean Forest with a little bit of Happy Frog for the beginning of the seedling on my first grow. They’re off of the ground on elevators. I’ll look up foliar spraying with epsom salt and get that taken care of. Mix in 1.5 tsp of Big Bloom and 1 tsp of Grow Big per gallon? I’ll also switch it up to feed/feed/water. Thanks for the help!

If that's what the fox farm chart says then go with half strength for sure, that's what I did when I used it and had really good results no deficiencies whatsoever. Just keep an eye on the tips of the leaves, any kind of burn just use plain water a couple times and continue with 1/4 strength feeding. Or just go feed/water/feed/water/ etc. If you feel more comfortable

Either way they definitely need nutrients throughout the grow

No problem at all good luck

Oh and make sure to foliar with the epsom until that interveinal chlorosis looks like it's going away, that's the yellowing in between the leaf veins

The malana bomb I grew from them was in a solo cup, and one of the best autos I've grown so far. The others I killed except what I have going now. Tough genes that malana bomb, tasty too.
