Going organic

Post by The Irishman »

Hey troops hope you all are well. Thought I'd start a wee diary for this one. I have been growing in coco for the past while and have decided to make the switch to organic growing instead as it ticks alot of boxes for me. I have opted for Green hand organic soil, which by the way if you are looking anything the man is an absolute gentleman and goes over and above when it comes to customer service and helping you. Also has an amazing array of products that you just can't get anywhere else, thank you sir for all your help.

Since this is my first run and I am a complete newbie when it comes to this style of growing I am only growing 2 plants, a white widow and a peyote critical. Just to see how big the plants get in 50L pots in my restricted space, and if all being well I will upgrade to 4 for the next run.

I have the babies in 1L pots with a mix of sphagnum peat, worm castings and buckwheat hulls and placed in the propagation tent with the t5, temp 24 humidity 80 and will keep them here for around 3 weeks until ready for transplanting.

I also have mixed up the soil and added plain water to let the soil cold cook until transplant

I'm on the GHO stuff too.

That looks like a lot of cover crop seed? I thouight I'd go easy on mine and it's like a jungle within 2 weeks  I am having to trim away all the greenery as I go to keep it under control.

Next time, I am going to just use litterally a few grass seeds to start, then when in latter flower, last 2 weeks give a little more of all 3. Then I'd intend to turn it over with all my trimmed cannabis leaf I don't want for hash and would usually go in waste somewhere, so it acts as fresh green manure, some microbes on top and within a further 2 weeks you can have rich fertile soil.

Maybe go easy on the seed?

His soil and everything is top notch! Hope all goes well. Mine are loving it.

Here is the link to the recent show the other night (podcast): viewtopic.php?f=137&t=10924 in the comments there is a watering regime GHO put in which helps. I use the aloe, fulvic to water in and triad kelp in rotation.

Happy Growing :oik!:

Cheers mate appreciate that info. Yeah I can see them starting to grow already after a couple of days. I was planning on keeping on top of them and trim and leave back in pot for the soil to absorb. Out of curiosity how much would u use when top dressing, im not too sure on the amount to use

Hey Rik yes that was the feeding schedule I was going to follow. I have ordered the coconut water should hopefully be here next week. Also had planned to water 2L each time think that works out just under 5%

Hard trying to get my head around going from coco with 20% run off to watering only 5% of the pots volume lol but know avoiding overwatering is crucial

I tend to start using those probes you get to test the soil moisture, I used them until I had the feel of watering coco. Now doing the same again.

Do you use anything to help break it down? Compost, bokashi etc....?

how much would u use when top dressing
There are calculations on most of the packets. GHO uses a certain amount of grams in the pot when he explains in the link above.

I tend to do a Malt Barley and insect frass 50/50 every couple of weeks or so then top dress alternating. What I do is I use a table spoon of my chosen amendments in a tub, mix it up with the lid on so you don't breath any dust in! I then use that on my main pot. At the end of each cycle you chop and drop as @IMO mentioned. That replenishes with a top dress of compost and worm castings. A week or two and it's all ready again.

You may have to top up with something like a compost tea every now and then too.

Kelp and green sand are the best all around. Kelp has 60+ different micro and macro nutes plus a load of micro life and narural growth enhancers. Kelp is faster acting, especially GHO's triad kelp. Then the green sand is long and slow acting nas well as giving you the sand needed in most soil.
