Half Bodhi & Half Grimm

Post by Cave Hill Cole »

Hi everyone,

No rest for the wicked! The flower tent has new line-up of ladies moved in and the next flower run is underway

Growing Inputs on this grow will be as follows:
My flower tent is 1.2m X 1.2m X 2.0m Height.
Light is an HLG 650 R spec Quantum Boards (running 70% right now).
I will run three (4) in coco, on an auto pot system (12L pots on a 100L reservoir).
My nutrient schedule is House & Garden A+B, Canna PK13/14, Ozi Magic Monsta Bud, Ozi Magic Ozi Tonic.
I amend my coco worm casting, bokashi, microbes, sheep pellets. I also feed aerated microbe teas.
Atlas plant trainers used for support, may add additional bamboo if necessary
Tower fans and wall mounted box fans.
Can Fan and Carbon Filter for extraction/air exchange.

On this run I will be doing the following strains:

- Angelica by Bodhi (front left) https://www.allbud.com/marijuana-strain ... d/angelica
- Hollyweed by Bodhi (front right) https://www.allbud.com/marijuana-strain ... /hollyweed
- Headband X C99 by Brothers Grimm (back left) https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/He ... ers_Grimm/
- Apollo 11 by Brothers Grimm (back right) https://www.allbud.com/marijuana-strain ... /apollo-11

Hopefully I am not getting to greedy, already my tent looks packed to the gills. If I have too, I will defoliate the Angie steadily as the grow goes on. She's an older mother plant of mine and has bud sites growing out of everywhere. You wouldn't know it, but I have already given her a good leaf strip before she went into bloom. If you look closesly she has a weird pot setup...this is because her roots grew through the fabric pot and straight into my autopots. So I just cut the pot away, filled her sides with clay balls and "Bobs your uncle, Jane's your Aunt" she seems to be doing fine.

Hey everyone,

Here is a quick update from the cave, before Christmas rolls around. Its been super hot and humid here in NZ the last week, average daytime humidity has been at 80%. The plants are growing great guns...its looking more like the Dagobah system in the flower Full disclosure, the tent is packed to the gills. I'm still playing around with me setup, in order to find the limits. I also have a new light that I am tweaking. I have been running it at about 70% right now. If temperatures rise throughout summer I may have to dim it even more.

Right now the reservoir is at 1.4EC. I am running H&G (A+B), Canna Pk (0.5ml per L), Ozi Magic Monsta Bud (2ml per L). PH is at approx 6.0-6.1. I am planning on adding some potassium silicate to this grow, just to see for myself if there is any difference. I have heard the debates about it and would like to give it a try. Now unfortunately the potassium silicate I have was a local grow shops in house product...on the product label it doesn't list the percentage or source of potassium silicate...which is mad suspect haha. But it was $20..so worth a punt. Now I have heard Spartan and many others speak on the benefit of "Power SI"....but that stuff is $200 for 500ml here. Apparently its 1ml per 6L dilloution, whih aint that bad...but still thats a LOT OF PAPAER to drop on some nutes....I don't know, but maybe there's a naked emperor around here. So for this initial experiment we are going for some ghetto grow shop special. I am going to use it at 0.5ml per liter (half the directions)

Image

Here's Angie (P1) and the head band X C99. They are about 20 days in and going for it. The cindy band is already starting to produce visual trichs.

Image

Here is the Apollo 11 and the Hollyweed. I have had to bend the may apical meristem's (big top coals)over to try and train them. The appollo has stretched a lot..she it supposed to be a stocky equatorial....equatorial yes, stocky no. The Hollywood has only been in the room a week, so she's still finding her feet.

those things have some great vigor, jee whiz
Cheers Chad! I think its more thanks to Bodhi's breeding efforts than my skill. All of his gear just seems to be a notch above in vigor to other breeders/seed companies. I'm being a bit cheeky and overloading my tent too, sometimes you have to push it a little to find the limits.

Hey Chad what's your thoughts on potassium silicate and Power SI?

I've really wanted to get my hands on some of his gear. He travels to foreign places, collects seeds and then just pollinates a bunch of things. But because the strains / genetics are so unique, his stuff will often have great vigor. Technical term heterosis.

I do use potassium silicate in small amounts but I have never tried the Power SI although it seems I have been seeing that mentioned a fair bit lately.
Heterosis! That's right, I heard Ryan Lee from Chimera speak about that in a recent interview. It was fantastic, due to his education in genetics and botany he adds a lot more scientific certainty to an often bro science world of cannabis. Yeah, it seems like essentially through heterosis, Bodhi is adding genetic purity/genetic dominance back in to the the elite poly hybrid clone world.

Yeah its been doing the rounds a bit in discussion, be interesting to hear some first hand experience.

Hi everyone, happy New Years!

It's week four in the Cave, for the oldest two plants (Angie and Cindy Band), the Apollo 11 and the Hollyweed are each staggered an additional week apart respectively. We had an intense heat/humidity wave about 10 days ago, each day was like 90%RH. As result the heat in the tent was getting out of control. So I dialed the light back down an additional 10%, from 70 to 60% power. The girls are pretty close to the light, they instantly responded well to the reduction in heat and light intensity. The reservoir has been at 1.3EC, with the same nutrient schedule and weekly microbe casting cocktail. The Cindy Band has actually yellowed out a bit, I'm not sure if its the reduced feed or light/heat intensity. But in the last 24hrs I replenished the reservoir, increased the EC to 1.5 and added a little Cal Mag...the leaves are already looking greener and are happily out preying. Its always hard with a single reservoir, you can't always provide the "goldie locks" feeding that the fussy little ladies may like.

Here's my Angie, shes looking really happy and is starting to stack. I probably left a little bit too much on her bio mass wise. But I'm interested to see what I can get. She's starting to dump the trichs which always make happy.

Image

Image

Here's the hollyweed, she's the youngest in the tent. But her bud sites are coming along nicely.

Image

Here's the Cindy Band, she's happy...but the yellowing is very obvious. The re-jigged nutrient feed seems to have done the trick.

Image

Here's the apollo, shes leggy as hell, her stretch is giving me a lot of constant training puzzles to think through. But she's happy.

100% - lots of bro science when they don't realize this is just basic farming / botany. Which is kind of why I love the white paper stuff. Good point, Bohdi is doing good things to widen the genetic potentials, in a time when it seems things are falling into a narrower and narrower funnel.

It's kind of odd how the economics of legalization has driven the diversity to be lower..... although there is the argument of all the home breeders..
I've always thought that odd myself...certain genetics become a victim of their own success. The diversity of older strains aren't kept, due to economic feasibility...all of a sudden you have an inbred gene pool. But as you say, there's those home breeders who are hanging on to older pure genetics and elite clones that help retain diversity. Who in turn do their own breeding and crosses. I'm now thinking any line I want to take a deep dive into...I should really always be doing an open pollination right at the beginning... :puff puff:

Hey everyone, its been a little over a week since my last post. Been away at the beach and enjoying the summer time here. I had to leave the cave for a couple days, the garden always seems to do better when I leave it alone. In the 3 days I was away, the growth was out of control. I have stuffed the grow space with over sized plants too...but so far so good.

Image

Angie is stacking and has been healthy throughout the grow.

Image

The Hollyweed is a little over 3 weeks old, she's a leggy girl. I have had to bend over the branches best I can using these giant plant ties. They actually work really good with my growing style.

Image

The Cindy Band has greened up a bit since the last post. She she seems happy and healthy, she's her flowers are maturing well.

Image

The Apollo 11 is super strechy, she is growing past the light, at the back of the tent where I can reach. I will go in and do some more training on her this week to level up the canopy.
