I used to be a sparks before going to study computer science (nearly lost a hand wiring up a motor when some dick head just switched the whole table on - the isolation panel had a sign 'Electrician Working' and was cable tied 'off' but management know better! and it was switched on while I was working on it - left the next day and went to Uni). I have stuck in a ring of 2.5mm coming of the 16 amp spur which was already in the airing cupboard directly beneath the loft but it is not a ring directly to the consumer unit mate. It is a spur from a 16 amp breaker then split to a ring. It's fine at the minute as obviously not everything is switched on at the same time but I would be happier running a dedicated 2.5mm ring directly from the consumer unit and upgrading the breaker to a 32 amp. The electronic shit soon adds up when you are trying to automate everything and would be happier to be well under the limts if you know what I mean.MrNice wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 9:52 pmMinty you know about radial and ring circuits .....?
radial
It is acceptable to install a number of sockets on a radial circuit using 2.5 mm cables protected by a 16A circuit breaker - provided that the expected connected load does not exceed 16A
A 2.5mm cable is capable of supplying around 23-25 amps depending on the method of installation, so is fine, safe and compliant on a 20amp circuit breaker
If you dont know about sparking..........get some one who knows about electrics mate![]()

Re: Minty Grow Diary - GR420 LED Grow Off
Actually thinking about I could just run a 4mm Hi-Tuff cable straight out the back of the consumer unit and up into the loft from the outside then power the existing 2.5mm ring from that at 32 amp. That would work, wouldn't be much hassle and wouldn't involve me chasing out any walls (just need a ladder and motivation).
£5.00 for the breaker,
£10.00 for the 6 mtrs 4mm HiTuff.
This way it would be a dedicated 32 amp ring main for both tents and I would be much happier.
Would look like this from the outside so not anyworse than my neighbour already has.
You see how stealth those air exhaust tiles are for the roof now. You can hardly even see them from the outside.

Dammm Minty
How many rooms you thinking about building 32amps thats alot nealy 7000 plus watts
May be you should see how much your pulling now amp wise then work out what you may need
must be a way of running the cable inside under the stairs to first floor floorboards then to cupboard then into loft...? or inside the walls on first floor to loft...?

Thats not the problem its the ambient air coming out of your tent that will show up on a FLIR device (Thermal Imaging Camera)
ie pig heli If your using one to expel hot air

Re: Minty Grow Diary - GR420 LED Grow Off
Got a battery smoke alarm above it in the loft with a mains powered nest smoke alarm directly under the loft hatch, all pots have a dedicated drain and overflow pipe straight into the main waste pipe. Don't have many friends but the ones I do have are real friends. So I have it mostly in check mate. Just the niggles with the power really, when I first used the heating circuit I only had a light and a fan, now I have a shit load of stuff and it all keeps adding up so would rather be safer than sorry as you have kindly pointed out.
7 kw is not a lot when you start adding up the total wattage used etc. I am already above 2 kw with one tent and not everything will be on at the same time but if it was I would want it to cope. Unless you keep on top of things in a panic I might plug in a 3 kw heater or some shit - you never know what people will plug in when faced with a socket and an emergency ;o)MrNice wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 10:58 pmHow many rooms you thinking about building 32amps thats alot nealy 7000 plus watts

I started building some monitoring into my software but you can see how quickly it adds up (wattage requirements shown in green) and doesn't include the water chiller yet or the equipment required to power the new tent. etc.

With the air con there should be a single heat source coming out of the roof (the other tile sit's on the other side of the roof next to the central heating exhaust) behind the large exhaust in this pic:-MrNice wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 11:06 pmYou see how stealth those air exhaust tiles are for the roof now. It's aint perfect mate but hopefully trying not to make any stupid mistakes. There is always a risk of course but you can't say I haven't been trying to do it properly.

Re: Minty Grow Diary - GR420 LED Grow Off
I think from a FLIR sensor in a chopper or even with AI analysis of all chopper footage (which is very likely already here or coming soon to a cinema near you) my heat signature will look pretty much like the heat coming out of the actual central heating system due to it's position (2 tiles up and about level with the top of that pipe). I don't think it could have worked out any better for heat stealth and to be honest mate the Invisible Sun LED's with the full on heatsinks do not even get warm - I can lick the heatsink and it is ambient ;o)
P.S. I didn't lick the heatsink and totally DO NOT recommend licking LED high wattage heat sinks - especially while they are turned on and especially, especially unless you have at least touched them with a wet finger first ;O)
On a side note, what they should do with that FLIR chopper footage if they really wanted to spot people growing is to open source it. Put it on YouTube and some people would fecking analysis that in there neighbourhood and then you would be fucked.
Would kinda like to add to this good advice with the 8 plants maximum rule I personally have. Make sure you are not growing more than 8 (or 9 if you really must) plants in any one time - that 9 plant boundary in the rules is a good line not to cross if can help it.
