Also feeding bottle nutrients that are readily available stops the plant interacting with the microbes which process the organic material into plant available nutrients

Both :), acidic media will piss off the beanies and the plants. How did you test the PH of the media if you don't mind me asking?
[/quote]

Well I just used 2 different probe type PH meters. The cheap ones. They only so good, I have been waiting to get a good soil PH test. But they're so bloody expensive lol

Hey Growers and Fello Gardeners,

Long time no writey so here it goes.

The plants have been slowly packing on the weight so far and the wanders of this site is now shining through as I can see how far the plants have come on. So thanks 420 and Keeno plus everyone who is also involved, admin, mentors and moderators. It's pretty cool to look back upon my grow now. Itching to crop but sitting on my hands now, currently giving another week and I'll see what the trichomes look like.

Since installing the heater things have come along very nice. Some of the buds have started to tip over as the stems struggle to hold their weight. I have given the plants some Banana skins which have been steeped in water for 3 days. Just 3 in a pint glass and ensure they are covered with the water. Any bad smells will tell you if they have gone off.

I also top dressed both plants around 2-3 weeks ago just to give any boost nearer the end towards harvest:

Plagron Worm Castings
Eco thrive: Life Cycle
Eco thrive: Charge
Eco thrive: Bio tea with...
Molasses
Bone Meal
Blood Meal (less of in flower)
Kelp

I did also add some extra Potassium, this was later on after I added the above. I also gave the one plant that looked to have Potassium deficiency some extra on top and an extra Banana skin water.

Despite my efforts the 2nd plant with the deficiency still continued to decline in health slightly. I suspect the plant had locked out. Harder to fix in my situation. I think I should of flushed and went back in with some more top dress or tried some simple organic bottle nutrients I have. The plant has still produced though and it is now showing the signs of some healthier bud forming so maybe I just caught the deficiency late?

Whichever way I have learnt loads.

My best looking buds yet.

See the same bud from 2 weeks ago:

Although I am being very patient to wait out for some amber Trichomes to form:

Although the 2nd plant I had problems with looks poorly in comparison but it is still producing buds. Whichever way it would make me a nice pile of Hash which I'd be happy with either way:

I shall update again at harvest and dry time. Bring on some Hash.

Very interesting update. Soil always looks so complicated to me. Never heard of the banana skin treatment before. Does it actually work? :Stoned:

It is actually a coco mix from eco thrive. Bit expensive though so I'm going to buff it out with some good old compost on my next grows, in bigger pots. Bit of a different approach but it's worked for me. Ready for an update now. It smells beaituful.

I gave the banana skin water to the poorly plant mainly and it did seem to perk it up. It did start to grow new fresh bud on the already older bits. I then gave it some potash later on to give an extra boost.

Time for a bit of an update on the diary.

It's been a while, blame me for either being lazy or not finding the energy to. Being back at work is hard hitting after so much time off with the lock down period.Β

Very proud of the results and the look of the buds:

Image
Image

These are both the same bud, pic below was taken from a few weeks earlier. Now a little trimmed up. I have come to the conclusion of part trimming through the whole process, of which keeps the humidity a little easier to control as I am drying in the out house I'm in; basically my growing area, it's the only choice I have in my current situation.

I got this idea from a recent discussion from GMO and someone, when they mention if you want to increase humidity use more plants. Reduce it, take out plants or take some of the leaves which will reduce transpiration and i.e. reduce humidity. Also from articles online about drying processes and the old weed growers tale of leaving the plant in the dark for a period before take down? I love controversial subjects lol

Image
Image

Here I have stripped off any of the major fan leaves. I took them straight out to inspect them properly. Make sure there isn't any mould or mildew anywhere.

I then place them back in and slowly raise the light over the next 2 days. This is almost replicating Autumn coming and hopefully raising the resin levels in the buds. A last attempt to pack them up with a little weight and improve the terpene content. After all we are trying to dry slowly. This is all after slowly lowering the daily light intake, over the last week or so. Being in organics, I do not have to worry about the flushing period as much, so I can concentrate on other things.

So after 2 days of raising the lights at 13/11 light (maybe more towards 13.5/10.5 ish) I then gave them 48 hours of complete darkness. I gave them the last watering a day before last light i.e. water at lights on, then the next day no water at lights on. Then the following day I took the lights straight out of the tent.

This in theory is slowly reducing the water content of the plant but also in the soil too.

Image
Image

This will hopefully help me lock in any terpene content as I will find it hard over the next week to get under 20 degrees in that out house. See my theory? Example at the moment I have raised my fans by lowering the temp setting. So it will pull more air in hopefully, to cool down as it is 26 right now. Too hot!

Also you will see my Heater is still rigged up but this is only set in case it gets below 15 at night:
Image

I have also now hung up my small dehumidifier which you can see in one of the pics above.

So after the medium is bone dry and the plants have stopped transpiring through their leaves I chop all remaining small fan leaves which have no THC or coverage. I will try and save some of these for making a CBD coconut oil, much respect to Canna Educator for all the ideas that helped me, especially the coconut oil idea.

Then I slowly chop and hang up as seen above.

As previously mentioned this slows down the steps of drying which in theory is spreading out the amount of humidity coming from the main fan leaves and the smaller fan leaves after my light lift and dark period. Hopefully this plan will help contain more flavour and slow the drying a little more whilst preserving any resin content.

In my theory if you chop in wet medium and whilst the plant is still breathing through it's leaves, that resin/tepene content can be evaporated/lost easier with the water conten?

Whichever way I have attempted to extend the period of drying while the plant was still breathing in the medium. High humidity or temps has worked ok with the LED lights so far but drying in the tent has always been a problem previously. An attempt to preserve as many terpenes and flavour as possible.
