Heres a question I cant find an answer for anywhere else:

Most grow fan reccomendations seem to be based on circulating enough air to cool with a HPS.

How does that change when using LED?

I can see that for a 4x4 the reccomendation is 5″/125mm – 225m3/hour minimum.

Is that still the case with LED or would you be able to get that down?

Cheers

H

As the whole idea behind how big your fan should be is air replacement, it's logical that the first thing we're going to need to do is calculate how much air needs to be replaced.

So, step one is to work out the volume of air contained in your active growing space. This is the floor space that's actually occupied by the plants (length x width) multiplied by the ceiling height.

Required extractor fan size in M3/H= (Volume of active growing space (m) x 60) x 1.33

Why is the volume of your growing area important? Because you need to change all the air contained in it once every minute! Led's won't produce much heat but you will still should be able to exchange that air :Stoned:

Ok so I should still go for the recommended size.

Im thinking to go for 6" though and run it slower as people say that will be quieter than a 5" at full speed.

Yeah if you go bigger and run half speed it will be more quiet and the lifespan will increase. I'd go coco/perlite Drain-to-Waste and use the K.I.S.S method if its your first time growing. I still use the K.I.S.S method just altered and I get amazing yields. LST, Top Twice, Scrog call it a day buddy. KISS Method is just Maxibloom from start to finish 7grams per 1g of water. Start at 1/4th strength til 2 weeks in. Good luck mate!

You never water coco with plain water - it's always feeding time. From the minute they sprout I start with 1/4 strength nutes and continue for the first two weeks. For weeks 3 and 4 I feed 1/2 strength nutes, and at the beginning of week 5 I start full strength until the end. And that is it, keep it simple stoner :)

The fan controller and the larger fan would be my choice you can turn it down in the winter and up it during the summer when it will be needed.
I run hps and led but still need heater in the tent in the winter mainly to keep plants warm when lights off.

I'd agree with kbag, I am absolutely the same. Better to have it and not use than not to have it when you have to use it.
