Walking the Dawg with Bruce
Welcome to my new diary. Two FastBuds autos this time to better fill the cupboard space, since I've sussed how much room they are likely to take. Definitely wanted to grow Bruce Banner this run, but was torn between Orange Sherbet, Wedding Cheesecake, Mexican Airlines and Stardawg - decided on Stardawg as it was an older seed and I know I will like it.

Nice, I was expecting pictures of nice scenery and stuff while you was out walking the dog. This is much better though.
Good luck with these, hope you smash it

Re: Walking the Dawg with Bruce
Cheers mate, welcome aboard. I think things have come a long way since those Lowryders, especially FastBuds who have some of the best genetics for autos - very high germination rates and solid plants that are easy to grow. Check my Zkittlez diary if you need convincing and there are even better ones by other growers here - it had a lovely structure with decent sized buds and it's very strong, tasty weed too - will do a review soon. The calyxes don't tend to swell as much with autos, at least not in my experience, or maybe they do swell, but not before most of the trichomes have turned amber.bimblebrains wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 12:10 pmCool @sybarite ,i'll be tagging along and see how autos are nowadays, last ones i did were lowryders years years ago and were a plie of shite, sure its come along way by now, looking forward to it progress mate![]()

Re: Walking the Dawg with Bruce
I used to only grow photoperiodic strains (regs or fems) and only started growing autos recently to make use of the extra space in my clone cupboard. I probably wouldn't exclusively grow autos, because I don't think they are very cost-effective in terms of what you put in and what you get out. I also think regs and fems are generally better to consume, but the gap does seem to be narrowing. I like having variety and autos allow me to try as many strains as possible within a relatively short space of time.

Re: Walking the Dawg with Bruce
If your serious about going down the auto route it might be worth investing in nft. Perhaps a gt205 per plant or if you’ve got the space a bigger tank holding more plants.
You get explosive growth with autos in nft but you have to be on the ball right from the start, also I liked to put my seedlings straight into the tank to give them maximum room for root growth straight away, I’d put the spreader mat in and the rockwool cube on top but then hand water rather than filling the reservoir.
If your on tgc or thctalk have a look through some of my old diaries, I was getting as much bud from autos as I was from fems.
The old cheese auto grow in my sig was nft but tbh it wasn’t my best, they didn’t get the start they needed and went into flower sooner than I’d have liked. Also I’ve started using a parabolic shade and I feel like I’m getting better light coverage at the cost of less penetration and the last two grows I’ve seen a reduction in finished product.
You can get a gt205 for about £50 for the complete kit, even comes with a bottle of ph down, then you just need the right nutes to go with it

Re: Walking the Dawg with Bruce
Cheers Vador, top tips and you had me considering it for a moment! NFT was the second method I ever used after the first, which was John Innes soil and Maxicrop from local DIY stores. NFT blew me away the first time I used it, because as you said, they can induce explosive growth, but organics is what I'm into now - yield and bag appeal are not very important to me. It's also convenient to be able to use all the same soil and food for all my plants, recycling it when not in use. Autos are more of a side project to my photoperiodics - had a bunch of soil left over and thought I might as well use it. These autos are also in a small alcove above my toilet, which is only 35cm deep, making the gt205 a little too large at 40cm. When/if I ever move into a house with more space I would love to have separate soil and hydro rooms to mess about with NFT and coco again.Vador wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 3:39 pmIf your serious about going down the auto route it might be worth investing in nft.
