Hey @sybarite mate, sorry alot of the stuff isnt to your liking, always so dissapointing doing all that work only to not get what you expected or hoped for man.My only advice would be choose, and not to sound snobish or condescending, better breeders. Its worth paying that bit more money to get better beans, cali connection and HSO are 2 companies i would definatley stay clear of,that swerve guy is a right con man.Get a keeper from someone decent and really dial it in in ,thats the best way to maximize a small space like that if you ask me,..some nice flowers there to tide you over tho ay,could be a hell of a lot worse!,the sour/key lime looks nice bro, good work

Re: Springtime Sativas
Thanks mate, I think you're right - it's a case of finding a decent pheno from a proper breeder. I read plenty of negative stuff about Swerve, but some of his strains looked good and some people said they were OK. I think I was about to buy Alien OG from Purple Caper until I realised Cali Connection were the first to make seeds of it, apparently, so that's what sent me down that path - also due to my ongoing quest to find a Blue Dream that's as good as the first HSO one, and I agree that HSO are best avoided too. In the past I got good yielding clones off a mate and did alright then, but they weren't what I was after, too indica-dom for my tastes. I think a lot of the Purple City stuff is top shelf and very nice, but not so good for yields - the sour/key lime is very nice indeed, maybe my new favourite. I've got Watermelon Zkittlez by Dying Breed next, then after that some Trichome Jungle and Universally Seeded beans to try, so hopefully I'll find something decent in there.bimblebrains wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 12:35 amHey @sybarite mate, sorry alot of the stuff isnt to your liking, always so dissapointing doing all that work only to not get what you expected or hoped for man.My only advice would be choose, and not to sound snobish or condescending, better breeders.

Cali connection when they first came on the scene in about 2010 ish or whatever were putting out some rally good lines, the deadhead og was fucking amazing, the larry kush that was a banger,me and a mate ran the shit out of a pheno of that larry for a good couple years(wish still had that cut)proper lemon pine cleaner diesel shit,incredible....but that is all because back then swerve had all the legit cuts to breed with, skunk va,sfv, tahoe, larry ect....but his facility got busted a couple years later and he lost the breeding stock..then predictably like many dickheads over years, they carried on offering a lot of the lines made with different parents not the originals and everything went to shit, very rare a seed company admits to loosing key plants, such a shame as the work was really good to start off with.
As for the blue dream search i think you would have to pop a hell of alot more hso beans to find that one again,a poly hybrid selfed makes for a hell of a lot of phenos man.
I've only used a hand full of breeders in the last few years, i really like Archive,Cannarado,Dank, and csi humboldt, maybe DNA at a push but increasingly not..been looking at a few Trichome jungle varities too,guy seems very knowledgeable and legit..people seem to have had good luck here with his gear on here,be interested to see how the dying breed gear is if or when you run it dude.

Re: Springtime Sativas
Cool, thanks Bim, that's good info, explains a lot. I agree about HSO, I gave up on them a long time ago, there was so much phenotypic variation in their Blue Dream it became impossible to find a keeper.bimblebrains wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 10:40 amCali connection when they first came on the scene in about 2010 ish or whatever were putting out some rally good lines, the deadhead og was fucking amazing, the larry kush that was a banger,me and a mate ran the shit out of a pheno of that larry for a good couple years(wish still had that cut)proper lemon pine cleaner diesel shit,incredible....but that is all because back then swerve had all the legit cuts to breed with, skunk va,sfv, tahoe, larry ect....but his facility got busted a couple years later and he lost the breeding stock..then predictably like many dickheads over years, they carried on offering a lot of the lines made with different parents not the originals and everything went to shit, very rare a seed company admits to loosing key plants, such a shame as the work was really good to start off with.

I considered Archive and Cannarado - I think Universally Seeded and/or Universally Creative use some Cannarado strains for their crosses, heard good things about all of them. Not considered csi humboldt and had not heard of Dank until now, so another rabbit hole to venture down. There's a few UK breeders doing good stuff now - Mean Beanz, Bateman Collections, but again, mostly indica-dom. Humboldt Seed Company (not org) seemed like a good bet, but I had poor yields. I've got the Watermelon Zkittlez growing and ready to transplant to the main tent once my soil is cooked. I probably won't be doing more diaries after this one, but I'll keep posting photos. It's the much cheaper Purple City version, which is a S1 of the Dying Breed one - I'm not paying £400 for a pack of seeds. It's a great looking plant so far, but very stretchy.

Re: Springtime Sativas
All plants are chopped, dried and partly cured now. It looked like it was going to be a bumper harvest at one point, but yields were disappointing with the Ghost Train Haze and AK-47 yielding about 50 grams each, and the other two under an ounce each.
But yields are not the reason I grow, so what are they like otherwise?
To be fair to Cali Connection, the Blue Dream Haze might be my second favourite of the bunch. I threw my clone in the bin, cursing about how it hermied, finished too soon, didn't taste or smell like Haze and didn't yield much, then realised how much I liked vaping it and dug it out of the bin - a nice wake and bake strain that puts me in a good mood, but can induce anxiety sometimes.
My favourite by far is the AJ's Sour Diesel x Key Lime Pie - I had some ice cream then vaped some of that shortly after and it tasted exactly like key lime pie, smells lovely too, a bit like some of the Runtz and Zcube I've had. I'd say it's for all day use, slight sativa-dominant effects with the warm, sociable glow of cookies. A great all-rounder.
AK-47, despite what I'd heard, does not smell or taste of much. It has a slightly sweet, sickly smell. It's strong, good body and head buzz, probably more for daytime, but not one for focusing. Good for music. A mate said it was the best weed he'd ever had. I wouldn't go that far, but each to their own.
Ghost Train Haze has that classic Haze smell and flavour that I always love. It's almost pure energy and focus with a slight bodily warmth. A strain for getting stuff done and I'm enjoying it, but usually prefer something that makes me feel a bit more unhinged or uplifted. I am a fussy bastard.
The only strain I wanted to keep from this run was AJ's Sour Diesel x Key Lime Pie, but it was a very poor yield and the only one I couldn't get a cutting to root from, so I may try again someday (when my grow is more dialed) with the two remaining seeds. I may keep the AK-47 to keep a friend happy, depends if I find something better.

Ghost Train Haze (vaped a few grams before weighing this)

So that's my diary finished. Thanks for looking.
