Water.. to tap or not to tap?

Post by CDX101 »

So that's my main question, I can set the tap water to the correct pH with buffers pH down etc but is it ok to feed the plants with it?

Or am I better setting up a rain collector?

I have looked using rain water before.

You have to be extremely careful where and how you collect the water 💧
You can collect bugs, bad 👎 microbes and unwanted viruses.

If you can collect it in a clean way with a collection system that is clean and you can keep clean. Maybe.

For your garden outside, rain water is the best.

I purchased some water quality test straps which tells you chlorine, chloride, Alkalinity as well as PH. Also tells you how hard I think amongst a few others.

I did have a post on it, I'll try dig it out. Tested my tao water ages ago. Maybe I can find a test strip and do a new test.....

If its good enough for me to drink out of tap then its good enough for plants to drink. DIY Rik makes a good point about bugs/pathogens etc if using collected rain water.

I use rain water on my house plants often but have always used tap water on my cannabis plants. i think mainly because I worry about outside cooties getting in.

I have found success mixing tap with recollected water from a dehumidifier.

Otherwise like you mentioned I set the pH of my water with some acid and also let it sit for 24+ hours to let chlorine evaporate out of it.

Well for me the natural gas to power the stove is expensive so may be cheaper to just run an air stone pump through the water if ya cant let it sit out for a day before using it. Thats also if your municipal water supplier even chlorinates the water. That information should be publicly available somewhere.

My water comes out at 8.5-8.7 pH and around 180-200 ppm
