Freedom Grow #1

Post by greenmobster440 »

So it begins.

I've been waiting my whole adult life for this. Ohio has finally passed legal weed along with a grow your own clause which doesn't require a license and allows 6 plants per adult in house or max of 12. I had been watching the progress of issue 2 for most of the year. Thanks to the hard work of organizations like NorMl and the determination voters expressed about getting cannabis legal. No more out of state trips. What a relief. Let's Grow!

As I waited for the process to unfold I started doing research on growing. Moreso a catch up on all things new in growing indoors. I have experience but it has been a while and the world of indoor gardening has blown up since so many states allow home grown weed. In my day it was hot, bulky, hid and mh rigs. 18% THC strains were as high as you could get. Problem was it was all underground, hush hush, and in some states a felony marijuana conviction could really mess up life. Thankfully our state laws can be altered by voting citizens and that's exactly what happened and needs to happen on a federal level.

On to my new grow. Can't express how excited I am to get back into all this. So here's a list of items I've gathered. Going to do a dwc in a tub. 2 plants and a scrog screen. I'll also have automatics growing in the other tent.

MeloFarm 4x4 tent
GreenHut 4x8 tent
Vivosun 6" exhaust with carbon filter
Szhlux pt4000 fem/reg grows
Adding GP3000 automatics
1 18gal tote
Danoplus ph, temp monitor
25w fish tank heater
Hitop 110gph air pump w air stones
2 6" net pots w geolite clay
5 3gal fabric pots and tray
Promix hd myco
1" cubes rock wool...slab
Heavy duty plug bar
2...6" clip on fans
46"x46" wood frame with metal 2"x3" screening for scrog
Govee humidifier automatic Veg Only
Govee Remote temperature/hygrometer
YinMik ph,ttd,ec tester

Tps Nutes......
Tps One
Tps Signal
Tps CalMag
Planet Earth Silica
SaferGro PH down

All in all I'd say I'm around $800+ in on all this. No complaints here...lol. When I started looking into a indoor setup I looked at the many kits available. Some were okay but not a one came with a light worthy of growing a nice solid crop. So, I opted to piece together what I thought would work within my budget.
The lamp and ventilation were my main concern. Without good light and environmental control you waste your time and money.

After many hours of gathering items for this grow I have finally started to put it all together. Being my first run with this gear it's hard to predict how things will go but providing a stable environment is goal #1. Below I'll list all items I've chosen with more information tagged on.

*Szhlux pt4000
After reading all I could I opted for the szhlux pt4000 lamp. It has a built in timer and a temperature gauge which shuts down lamps from 9 to 7 to 5. If temp goes over 96 it will shut down. Nice safety feature to have in case if ventilation failure. Says it will cast 57000+ lumes or at a 4x4 space. It should be enough to get the weed train growing. I'll update as time goes by but for now I'll make this work.

*Adiding Gp3000
Picked this up on Amazon. If it does what it says and puts out like it claims (which I'm sure it does not..lol) hopefully this should be a nice lamp for a few autos. Nothing fancy. Just another led light.

*MelonFarm 4x4
Seeing as this is my first tent grow I had no idea what to expect. Assembly was easy and straightforward. Zippers seems good but after throwing my lamp in there and sealing it up in a dark room I do see light leaks at some sown seams and I also found a few small holes. I plan on growing feminized girls in there so I had to address the light leaks first. 1. Holes and seams...I found that a can of flex seal does the trick. Was considering gorilla tape but the black rubber spray worked great. 2. Ventilation... At first I wasn't to concerned about it. Then noticed it even bows in the support poles. Overkill if you ask me. I'm going to try and settle this suction down a little. A nice draw is good but damn it's gotta be tamed down a little..lol.

*GreenHut 4x8
Bought this huge tent at an auction along with two other 2x4 tents. Open box type sale. All the parts were there and the tent is in fine shape. Impressed with the construction and zippers on this tent. It's no gorilla tent but nice.

*Vivosun Ventilation 6" inline w/ carbon filter....No real reason for this setup. Simply went with good reviews and price. Since plugging it in I think it's a little noisy but not to overboard. Once things are buttoned up it sounds like one of those white noise noise makers. I'm okay with that. Suction is off the hook. All walls bow in even on low. Can't see where this minor issue would harm anything. At least I know all my smell is going out with some force..lol

*Danoplus Ph, Temperature Monitor...This was not a absolute needed item but I'm hoping it will be a handy quick check gauge to keep an eye on the reservoir.

*Govee Temperature, Hygrometer remote
*Govee Smart humidifier....Able to Bluetooth these to work together inside the tent to maintain a suitable humidity for veg stage. Humidity in the tent is 29% zipped up and running. I'm hopeful this combination will get it more stable.

TPS Nutrients...I spent a lot of time searching the millions of options available. Wanted a simple regimen to follow with decent results. The TPS line seems to offer what I seek. The "One" formula is used throughout the whole cycle. "Signal" to build juicy bud and of course a CalMag, ph down, and Silica to round it all out. I have read a few places that this One formula can run a little hot so something to watch as I go.

*Promix HD Myco
Years ago I used to use promix and had great results. Today I see they have improved the formula and I can wait to see how the autos perform in it. Nice to know I can use the TPS One in this medium as well.

That's about all of it I believe. It's been a pure joy gathering all of this stuff, reading a lot of material to get caught up and knowing in the back of my mind...this is now legal. Peace of Mind makes for a happy gardener.

I'm going to continue this journal to get caught up to current day. Been keeping notes as Ive progressed.

11/9 Presoaked Rockwood cubes in ph 5.7 tap water. Seeded rw and set humidity dome.
The three stains are feminized seed sent to me from a friend I've lost contact with. I know the beans are from breeders but not sure where or who..lol. Anyways, it's all I have on hand and I'm just a little over budget getting started.
LA Amnesia
Gigabud
Chemdawg Mil Guava

11/12 soaking Auto beans
Growers Choice..Gorilla glue
Growers Choice..NL
Growers Choice..Tangerine Dream
I49..XXXL
G13 Labs..Dosi
All autos will go in the big tent. I'll just be using the one side of the 4x8 for flowering autos. So if there is a few light leaks I'll not be concerned. The solo 4x4 is buttoned up for feminized and regular seed grows. The other half of the 4x8 I'll use to start new beans or clones. Also plan on using some of the area to store all my nutes and things ya need daily. Eventually I'll throw another grow in there once I get another lamp but for now the one side provides a nice storage.

11/13 all seeds have emerged from the cubes. Not roots yet.
11/14 all newborn are stretching into life. Today they go in the big tub roots or not.

11/14...XXXL cracked a tail. Planted in 8oz cup w/ straight promix hp myco.

More soon. I gotta start taking pics.

*Ventilation Tweak
Here's the plan. All shit shows start with a plan. Some work..lol. So my suction with the 6" is off the chain when connected up to the 4x4. In my mind it doesn't need to be that much force. My thoughts about this issue have been taking a lot of space in my brain. I've also found that trying to maintain a decent humidity with air flow so high is difficult. Now that I have added the 4x8 into the equation I'm going to rethink this ventilation thing going on. I'm thinking of mounting the exhaust fan in the large tent and just run a 6" duct into the 4x4 to extract heat from the lamp and circulate fresh air. In my head this will work and leave me with a suitable environment and hopefully not so much suction.
Update....all set up like explained above. After running the setup for 4hrs I'm getting some great numbers temp 74, humidity 65-70 humidity. Suitable environment for young growing plants. I'm pleased so far. New lamp for the big tent comes in tomorrow. Curious to see what kind of numbers I get in there. I'll find out tomorrow.

LA Amnesia and Chemdawg have been placed in the net pots and backfilled. Ph 5.7, ppm 550, rest temp 70. I'm growin 💕.

Taking the gigabud which came up with the two above and throwing her into some promix and place her in with the autos. I'll grow her a little and take some clones for the next grow.

Tomorrow I'll mount the lamp in the large tent. Button up a few odds n ends. Hopefully the rest of the autos will have some tails so I can plant them.

Super pleased so far with the temps n humidity. The rig ran all night 73 degrees @ 65% rh. The young plants are loving it and responding well.
As I was reviewing a lot of the grow info on here and gathering supplies I came across a article on VPD. The article made sense to me. I'm all for giving my plants every advantage they need to be big n strong. So I've tried to dial in things according to the chart. I think humidity plays a big roll in the growth stage. Of course the humidity will taper off a lot in the flower stage but that's expected. Bud rot n powder mold sucks..lol

New lamp for the one side of the big tent arrived yesterday. Adding GP3000. 320w output. At least that's what the label on the ballast states. Rigged it up and it's a bright light..done lol. It should do well for the automatics I plan on growing in there.
