Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
Ok I'm here!
First of all: yesterday I worked on the 2 big Tropicannas to dig a hole in the middle, so the outer canopy can grow in height for the next 2 weeks and, when in flowering, can fill a square meter of SCROG net. Today I ordered two 10 gallons fabric pots from my local growshop - I have to find the saucers (pots SHOULD be 40cm diameter, but wanna be sure before buying saucers). Of course, seeing all those cutties, my cloning compulsion won easy - so now I have 20-25 cuts from T1 and 15-20 cuts from T2. This morning they were suffering from the heat wave we are having here (today and next 5 days will be hot too, 35°C peaks everyday). I believe the successfully rooting percentage will be low... We will see. Anyway I worked on the "cooling" system, now more fresh air goes from the basement to the grow room. If this fails, I have an AC unit to cool the room - it will be expensive tho...
Second: yesterday the first wave of clones I did from T1 an T2 have been repotted into 10l pots. I can say they loved it because today their branches were more spreaded, seems like the plants understood their pot is bigger. Incredible!
I placed 2 fingers of expanded clay at the bottom of the pots, then filled with (used) soil; watered by spraying the soil. This morning did it again (soil was quite dry due to the heat). Let's see these 2 weeks of growth: IF some of the last cuts I made roots AND the two big sisters won't grow as I want, the 4 plants (T1 and T2 bigs, T1 and T2 littles) will be flowering together.
Third: the Hand Grenade. Buds are quite fully grown, trichomes are building up. Seeing this cute dwarfie makes me smile! It's too funny :) :)
Recipes:
-before watering, I always spray the soil to wet the surface. I use only "plain" water: tap water bubbled (and left to settle) for 48h, 1ml/l AquaBurst (saponine), PH adjusted to 6.0.
-Cuttings: tap bubbled water, Rhizotonic, Jump Start, PH to 6.0. While making cuts I leave them into a glass of this solution; I often spray them with that too to keep the humidity up. I use the same solution to hydrate the jiffies. Of course I use a rooting hormone too, it's a cheap powder bought at the warehouse but it works, so it's OK ;)
-lil T1 and T2 repots: for the first watering after repot (yesterday) I used the same solution I prepared for cuttings, gently spraying the soil around the shape of the old pot. I should have given half liter of water each pot. This morning I gave them the same recipe I gave to the big ones.
-big T1 and T2: after the 3 last watering were only "plain" water to prevent salt buildup into the soil, this time (looking at those yellow leaves, and noticing a sly brightening of the colour of the leaves) I gave them a full meal. Canna Vega 5ml/l, Rhizotonic 2ml/l, CannaZym 2,5ml/l, AquaBurst, PH to 6.0. Made 5 liters of this solution, the big ones had 2l each, little ones had a good spraying of water (200-250ml circa) then 500ml of the "full meal" solution.
-Hand Grenade: 1,5l water, AquaBurst, PH to 6.0. It's about 1 week she's in flush, and next 2 weeks will be also. I just don't understand that dark colour of the leaves, maybe it's genetics? Anyway this morning finally I noticed some leaves yellowing. Plant seems OK to me, trichomes are building so... That's OK to me. If she wants some food, that 20l pot contains quite everything she needs even without liquid nutrients added.
P.S. the two Sweet Cheese: suffering for the heat and for the late transplant! There are not so much nutrients into a coco jiffy... Maybe the bigger one will not survive, I see her suffering; the little one seems to be less damaged. "morning" is at 20.00 so I have an hour to wait before checking!

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
I have the measurement:
at 50% 10cm=60dB 100cm=57dB 300cm=52dB
at 100% 10cm=71dB 100cm=68dB 300cm=63dB
it's a closed space, and around my house there are cultivated fields with lots of machines at work, so...

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
I don't know if you understand the DB scale but if you or anybody reading does not, it's easy to understand +10 DB is twice the volume. Example 20 db is twice the volume of 10db, so 60 db is twice the volume of 50 db.
Yeh i wonder if the farming machines affected those readings.
wOw that's noisy as hell, holly shit batman !! Spider farmer claim 50db lol? maybe they are measuring at 3+ meters.
For prospective my flower space has 4x 5'' fans, 6x circulating fans & a 11,000 BTU AC all running at 100% & walking around the room I get 55-60 DB Peak, winter its 55 DB.
I might be a bit anal when it comes to noise levels but I do appreciate a quiet space, it's a better work environment and lowers security risk.
Grazie! Thank you for taking those readings, kinda puts me off getting the spider farmer 6'' now. all though I doubt AC infinity is much better, I need to ask somebody with AC infinity to get some db readings for comparison as infinity might have a better DC motor.
======================
T1&2 are looking big now, can't really tell you took so many clones, heat might kill some clones but the practice will do you good and cloning is a very important skill to learn, just remember they 'can only drink though there leafs' so keep the dome sealed/closed and well sprayed, spray the inside of the dome not the plants twice daily... careful only spray if you see the droplets have evaporated off the dome & at least 85% should survive. it's harder in this heat & it takes practice. BTW Coco plug has zero nutrition so they do need a little EC, that's why mine always look green & healthy straight out the dome.
Sucks running at night, i don't like it but it's the only 'cheap' way to be semi-efficient in our high heat countries. Im now running 10pm-10am full summer heat. A sealed insulated grow space is loads of work and expensive with the proper equipment but I believe more efficient/cheaper to run, mini split AC & sealed is the eventual plan but it will take me awhile to get there.
Lol yeah those little grenades are indeed funny. Something I've been meaning to ask a few posts ago is why are you watering at 6 PH, I thought 6.3 - 6.5 would be better for soil.
All in all considering your environment battles your girls are doing good mate, how much stretch are you anticipating with your photo tropicanas ? there getting big now ...
feca bon e feca verde. Ciao Ciao Omego.

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
I thought "maybe these new type of fan ARE effectively noisier than older ones" but then I bought a cheap one, a 5" paid €60, and it's waaay quieter... Don't know what to do but I wanna take a look inside the SF to see if there's something inside...
Clones are suffering heat but some of them, statistically, should - SHOULD - survive. I'll check after a week from cut if there is any sign of roots. 2 weeks is the standard for me to have roots. Btw I will include half veg meal on their recipe :)
It's this soil is basic, if I don't always use water with 6.0 PH then the soil PH rises above 7
They're indica 60%, I bet they will double their size during stretch. Yesterday I bought 2 10gal pots with saucers, today I prepared soil and exp.clay, tomorrow will transplant. But after being transplanted, maybe the two of them will have the 1sqmt tent for themselves - the saucers are too big lol so next step will be just wait for them to grow (under training) until desired size (still have to buy the net). The end of the month, maybe before. The website reports 6/7 weeks of flowering... I call it 8, I'll keep the pace for 8 weeks flowering.
Other plants will go back into the 2x4. Next two months I'm gonna prepare the two Cheese (C1 SURVIVED!!) the same way I did for the Tropicannas, I want to see which ones produce the best buds in a SOG.

Looking good @Rorschach
What temperature do you get in winter?
AC is noisy and expensive to run.
Is it worth the outlay?
One thing I would do with the plants is get them on a wire rack above the drip tray. Get some air to the roots.

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
in the room I am going to use there's a gas stove ;) btw the temperatures outside go little below 0°C in the coldest days.
I'm looking for the pot holder to put under the new fabric pots, but the size is killing me :-| 40cm, 16in. Maybe the wire rack is a valid alternative - but I just bought two 50cm saucers :-|
Anyway I always put 2-3 fingers of expanded clay on the bottom of the bigger pots before transplanting so no problem

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
Lot of work these two days!
Found a way to keep temperature down without AC, will check this afternoon.
Transplanted big T1 and T2 into 10gal fabric pots - and it has been a good idea to do so. The roots of both plants were to the limit of the old pot - they were both very nice rootballs. New pots are twice the size of previous ones so we are OK for flowering. Leaved the plants untrained, wanna see in the next 2 days how they behave before deciding if continue using iron wires or to put on a net and start SCROGging. Before changing the timer to 12h, I'll move little T1 and T2 (1st wave clones) into the other tent.
Family portrait, 1sqmt tent:

2x4 tent is active again :) quite empty atm, but soon will be full again. Some of the 2nd wave clones seems to be still alive, I hope I'll be enough lucky. Hand Grenade is going more frosty every day ;)

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
Can really see that 'life preserver' shape on the T1&2. I've a feeling they won't stretch much in flower given the way they have grown so far and the shorter flowering time by the breeder, Id say maybe twice the size 3rd week of flower.
Have you searched for other people growing of your genetics on places like youtube, forums, cannabis diaries website. If you can find a few grows you'll have a better idea of the shape in week 3 of flower, you might be better using bamboo poles, maybe 8 pushed though the new soil round the edge on each pot.
See if you can find some grows, I could be wrong but scrog maynot be her thing.
Otherwise things look good mate, keep the domes wet on the inside but not too wet.

Re: Tropicanna's in da house! (plus intruders lol)
Weekly update!!
Plenty of photos today

Tent #1:
Clones are resisting. Yesterday I checked each one looking for roots & general health; no roots yet, just one cut has been removed 'cause dead. Still using Jump Start + half veg recipe from yesterday. Started opening the domes for hardening.

Hand Grenade: expected 1 week to harvest (inspecting the trichomes everyday to see when they go milky and/or spot some of them ambered). This thing makes me lugh

Tent #2:
T1 and T2 littles:
No problems at all, these girls are going on their training. These eventually will become mothers, but atm I don't need to make cuts so the idea is to let them have an even canopy and increasing the number of the branches.

C1 and C2:
These two survivors are doing well. C1 was the one who was dying, now it's recovering; C2 is an amazing little plant, she's very short and bushtype.

Look at the internodes of C2! How can I train something like this?

T1 and T2 bigs:
After few days from transplant (20l pots were nicely filled with roots) and leaving the plants untrained, the situation was this.

As I was hoping, sidebranch EXPLOSION.

No need to upskirt more for the moment ;) some yellow leaf btw, T1 expecially has suffered some nutrients deficiency but now it's OK.

Need some training! At work!!
T1 after training:

T2 after training:

T1 big has reached a round horizontal print around 50cm diameter; T2 is just a little behind. They are ready to go flower; I just have to buy/make a net and everyday from now on will be good to switch to flower. T1 and T2 little, C1 and C2 will be transfered into tent #1.
