Is it okay to cut leaves on or around bud sites?

If the leaves are blocking light to other bud sites I was wondering if it was okay to cut the leaves that are connected to or around the buds

I have a heavy defoliate several times through flower for this reason. It's one of them subjects where you will get 10 different answers from 10 different growers. I was told not to remove the top set of fan leaves, anything else was game if it's blocking bud sites. If you can tuck them out of the way thats just as good.

@Trillskrilla I do it every time mate. If any leaf is blocking light of a nug, I cut it :)
