I had the same "problem" until last week.
I left the cuts in the small pots as long as possible and then cut them completely in cuttings to get a few weeks time. :)
I simply had these cuts to stand on the ground between all the others, where almost no light got through.
But good cuttings cannot be grown from every cutting
