wigz's RDWC

Post by wigz »

Hi guys, I know this is not really the right place but I will carry on posting pics of the grow here after. I have got myself into a lockout situation by the look of it...…

ImageImageImageImage

RO water
GH trio

I could not work out what was wrong until I stuck my PH pen into some buffer and found it was showing +1.0 so I was actually PHing my res at PH4.5 or something and it refused to re-calibrate so I ordered a new one and also a new EC meter. They came yesterday and i was shocked to find out that my EC meter was also out of calibration, it was showing ok til EC1.0 but at EC1.2 it was actually EC1.6.

I am currently diluting the res with RO and by tonight will have worked it back to EC1.0 as I know my ratios were correct (cal-mag to 0.2 and GH 3-2-1).

Am I doing the right thing here?

Thanks for you help!

This is a bit of an easy fix mate, I dont think your locked out. You have red stems showing from what I'm going to assume is PK deficiency due the the PH range.

Basically below about 5.6 PK isnt available and no matter what your feed solution they simply cant access the nutrients that need high PH

I have a strong feeling this will clear up within 3-5 days of PH around 5.9

Altho.... it's going to be worth asking how temps are fairing?

Low temps could also be adding to the colour your seeing

Yeah those temps are nice

I wouldn't have thought killed off, but maybe damaged and slowed (without seeing) but I think you would have a lot more leaf damage if it was seriously burning the root zone

It's likely that the dying leaves just had too much damage in regards to the PK being moved from them into the core of the plant. Old damage rarely heals well, watching the new growth will give you a better idea what's going on now rather than what the plants been trying to recover from like the old leaves tell... if that makes sense :Stoned:

That does sound high, but they didnt have full access to the nutrients at that range so they weren't taking in enough to get burnt quite possibly

I think GHE recommends 900-1100ppm in early veg that's 1.8EC. If you're using RO, I'd bring the EC up to 150-200ppm (0.3ec) before making up your nutes. You want it to be at least 150ppm to avoid issues. It's very hard to tell from a photo and with the PH issues but that lower leaf looks like Ca def to me. Are you using the soft water version of flora?

As already mentioned I think the correct pH range will sort most of your problems buddy. Tell us more about your setup?

Thanks dude, RDWC top fed, 9 plants all connected to a main res, CO2 gen but ive turned it off while i sort this out!
Im vegging under 1x600w but theres another 60 in there for flowering, scrubber on the floor, fans at both ends.

what else? RH stays around 60% 27c lights on 23c off.
