UK government buying 20% stake in sizewell C

Post by GHO »

Can't post a link for some reason, but apparently the UK is buying a 20% stake in the sizewell C nuclear reactor to limit Chinese interests in UK tech. If we're going to be investing public funds in UK power generation, shouldn't this be the start of making power production publicly owned and cheaper for everyone?

I'm thinking it would be nice if all power stations, offshore wind etc had legislation limiting private investment to driving technological advancement but not profiting from the generation itself. Hopefully making it cheaper for those whose taxes are being used to buy stakes like this?
