Growers Choice Naranja Biscotti

Growers Choice Naranja Biscotti

Here we go with another diary. Where to start.
The seeds came nicely packaged and are laid on a soft bed when you open the pack, they include a set of printed instructions inside the box which is a nice touch for new growers, the other side of the paper tells you about the strain.

Very nice, impressed so far, it was when I tried to put the paper back in and the lid on that disaster struck, the seeds all pinged off all over the floor. I spent at least 20 minutes on my hands and knees trying to round them all up, even had to use a spoon to hook one out from under the washing machine.
So there’s my first criticism, although very nice the pack could do with being a bit more secure, maybe the seeds could be sandwiched between two bits of foam ?

Moving on, here is some information about the seeds from the Growers Choice Website-

“At to the request of our friends and customers we created a fast version with outstanding trades.
To develop this strain, we selected one of the best biscotti genetic lines and combined it with our mandarine autoflowering strain.
By backcrossing it with the biscotti mother we created a semi autoflowering strain that we call fast version.
Naranja biscotti has big light green buds with bright orange hairs and a thick frosty coating of bright white crystal trichomes.
This weed has a crazy delicious sugary cookie flavor with a hint of fresh mandarine.
As you can expect from this strain it grows for a very short period before going into flower.
Making it a good strain for people with height issues.
If you dont have height issues than pre grow it a couple of days longer to get the right height.
Outdoor it will be one of the fastest strains you have ver seen.
Buds are rockhard and dont care about molds at all.”

Flowering time indoor 7 weeks
Harvest month outdoor September
Yield indoor 550-650 grams /m2
Mold resistance High
THC 25-30%
CBD Medium
Flavour Delicious sugary cookie flavor with a hint of fresh mandarine
Climate Can take warm and cold climates
Height indoor filter Low - 80cm - 120cm
Height indoor 90cm - 120cm
Height outdoor 150cm - 200cm
Harvest month outdoor second week of september
Parents biscotti x mandarine autoflower
Genetics 70% indica - 30% sativa

I will be totally honest now I’m really not sure what I’m doing with these seeds, I’ve grown auto’s before but these are semi auto’s, what does that even mean? You don’t use the clutch when changing gear?
Presumably they will go into flower on there own just like an auto but then in the description it says “If you dont have height issues than pre grow it a couple of days longer to get the right height.” That suggests to me you need to change the light cycle? So confused at the moment.

Here’s a couple of pictures from the Growers Choice Website, I really hope mine comes out like that, looks lovely.

That’s the seeds covered now on to equipment.
These will be grown in coco in a run to waste system, due to them being auto I’m going to wait a little bit before germinating these, got an 8 week strain in the flowering room on week 1 12/12, when they get to week 4 I’ll get these seeds germed and straight into 16L pots, then when my cheese gets harvested these will be about a month old and go straight into the flowering room. I don’t want to keep them in the veg tent too long you see and stunt there growth, going to treat them as auto’s for now until I can figure out what I’m meant to do with them. Veg will happen under 150w ISH v bars before going under 2x ISH x bars for flowering.

They will be started off on Formulex for the first few weeks before moving over to the Vitalink range of nutes based loosely around this feeding schedule.

Well that’s about all for now, I’ll update again in a couple of weeks when I get these started.
Thanks for reading

I had a quick look online and it seems that you treat them like photoperiods but with like a 14/10 light cycle, someone left a semi auto to flower automatically and it just kept growing, when he changed the light cycle it flowered.
It seems that there are a few different light cycles you can use depending on the strain. Some like more light than others in flowering I guess. More research is needed at this point but it’s starting to make a bit more sense now.

Thanks Mrs B.
yeah so far so good, totally hassle free germination so I’m happy with that.
Never used growers choice before so excited to see how they turn out

Oh really, why is that then?
Easiest way I’ve tried with the best succes rate is to soak for 24 hours, after that you should have a root, then into kitchen paper for a day or two, any that haven’t rooted after the first day in kitchen towel I put back into soak and keep checking till I get a root, best way to transfer from the water is with a teaspoon, you can hook them out real easy without causing any damage then just drop it into whatever media.

Another good way I like is using rock wool or root riot cubes with a wick that hangs into a reservoir, the wick will draw up just enough to keep the cube damp.
Basically just use a root riot tray and fit it to the lid of a box, add a wick that hangs into the bottom and runs up the side of the cube, I used to use old socks for wicks they work a treat. I call it the germination station 100% success rate with that, haven’t bought a root riot tray for a while though so not made a new one otherwise I’d be using that every time.

I usually put my seeds straight into jiffy plugs after the plugs have been hydrated in filtered water, then some of the water squeezed out, then seal in a tupperware box to keep moist, then in the airing cupboard for warmth. Works 90% of the time and when it doesn't it's often due to dud seeds. I personally think there are too many things that can go wrong with paper tissue method, the only real benefit as far as I'm aware is that you can see the seed pop, but I don't like handling them when they are that delicate.
