Re: Springtime Sativas

I decided to drop the net after my initial plan of letting them grow into bigger bushes before training into the net, thinking it might increase yield, but the GTH was becoming unruly and outstretching the others, so training or topping seemed like the best options, but I don't much like topping after a certain point - the more I divide up a plant by topping the less vigorous they seem to become, which might not be an issue if I allowed more time in veg after topping, but life's too short for waiting, so went with training. Trying not to get the net too low, as I'd struggle adding amendments with my dodgy back.

No water was added to the base tanks until today, as the top two inches were starting to feel dry a day after top watering.

The LED is one metre from the canopy and dimmed to its lowest intensity. The plants like it like that during veg. Much closer and they will start showing what looks like mg deficiency. I will not turn it to max until after about 4 weeks in bloom, gradually increasing each week until it reaches full brightness. I have a habit of lowering the light too soon, thinking it will increase productivity and reduce node lengths, but usually it has a negative affect and slows growth. I think in hydro it might be possible to have the lights lower due to plants effectively being force-fed - I guess you could increase CO2 and EC to compensate for the increased light, but in soil I think we need to be more careful, as we are more reliant on nature taking its course, or at least that's my bro science theory.

Thanks for the kind words @bimblebrains, @2-Scoops and @Herbalist.

Lights still dimmed to lowest setting (198w). I moved them from 1m to about 85cm, then back again to 1m after seeing growth slow and what looks like deficiencies. The day after moving lights back to 1m there was a sudden growth spurt. Fungus gnats are back in force - nematodes applied a few days ago, but forgot to do in dark and no sign of the gnats dwindling yet, little sh!tz. Top watered today with aloe and microbiome. I will let these grow a little more, then take cuttings, then flip.

A quick mid-week update before flip tonight, having just taken cuttings from all of these and most foliage below canopy removed, except for what's receiving direct light. I snapped a branch on the AK-47, but used @Greenfingers method of airline tubing and tape to repair, thanks for that tip. The Ghost Train Haze doesn't look too happy, a few yellow spots and I'm not keen on the structure so far compared with the other strains, so maybe I'll plant another seed of that to find a better pheno, or something different, maybe Watermelon Zkittlez, or GMO x Strawnana, or Chem 91, or Lemongrass, or none of those, but most likely Sativa to match the pace of the others and keep my spirits up.

The light is still 1 metre away and dimmed fully at 198w.

Forgot to say, I top dressed, then plain-watered from the top at the start of the week with feather meal, alfalfa meal, MBP and hemp seed meal mixed with compost. A few days before they were top watered with fulvic. I haven't watered from the top or bottom for a few days.

GTH and BDH recovering nicely after being excessively root-bound prior to last week's transplant. The AK-47 was only yellowing slightly on lower leaves and it had very sparse, thin roots compared to the others, yet apparently not to its detriment, as it's been looking pretty healthy overall. The Sour D x KLP is by far the best looking and least fussy, really looking forward to that one. The cover crop is starting to sprout - it should ideally have been sown a week before transplanting, but life is too short

Thanks mate, the light is Invisible Sun ISH530 Type R V2, but their range has improved considerably since I bought mine, with some being much more efficient.
