Gorilla Glue Auto's.... First time with both

Post by MrBill »

First try with AutoFlowers, Gorilla Glue strain AND first time with this seed supplier.

Following suggestions on the site I bought them from (if I start them their way and they fail to germinate, they offer replacements for any defectives) I tossed the first 7 in glass of water and waited til they germinated.

First 7 seeds--
All cracked open by day 4.
Three with tap root we're transplanted to soil.
Two broke the surface of the dirt but only had the dicot feeder leaves, never grew is set of real leaves as they had NO chlorophyll green to them at all. Came up yellow and died.
The 4 remaining all had same issue after 3 more days, they cracked open but weren't sending out a root.
Last resort, pry them open and plant in soil. Two of them came up and pretty much layed down and died.
One never broke the surface, one finally came up almost a week after the first.
So far only 2 good out of the first 7.
These 2 are out of the same "batch' of seeds, put in to germ at the same time, but one is about a week older.

Three weeks (ish) in....

And a week later....

"Normal" is not a goal. It is a level to be surpassed on the way to "memorable". :Stoned:
:puff puff: (UNLESS of course, the goal is NORML)

Looking good bud. Did you do anything different to what you would normally do at the start? Surprising to hear of so many duff seeds. Hopefully these will get going and make up for the others 👍

These ruibbish seeds sometimes! I popped 3 fems in recently and they still not showing signs of life. I even did a vote on which ones to pop

Looking good so far though bill.

I usually go straight into the final pot with autos, no saoking or anything in towels etc..... they are like a ticking clock, so I hate transplanting them.

I had usually done it between paper towels but went with this process because if I do, I can get replacements from the the seed bank.

I only changed methods because I followed guide from seed bank so I was covered for replacements.
After the flop of sprouting my leftover GDP seeds and then these struggling, I'm pretty sure the water company hits the chemicals hard at night. I was leaving water out to sit and evaporate excess chlorine but I think there's more chems than before at night. Testing this theory by only drawing water during the day. We'll see what happens next.

enjoy the journey

I've seen many people who have transplanted autos and there seems to be an older crowd that suggests not to. For me, I've always been gentle with transplanting and never really see any signs of the plant slowing down when plants have a well established root system. Therefore, I don't think transplanting would be too bad if you can do it gently.
I really didn't transplant them. Once they germinated I put them right into pots they are to stay in til the end.

That's a brilliant idea from the seed bank, they should all catch onto doing something similar.

Bit restrictive though if you want to put them straight in the soil/medium.

@MrNice Yeah the guy I watched at the start of my growing journey used to grow straight into the final pot with autos and its something I have always stuck to.

Less chance of stressing the plant. You're just adding an extra unknown into the situation.
Maybe I'm just rubbish at transplanting plants

Whenever I did I always notice slow growth for a week or two while they found there roots again.

Something said in a podcast made me think more along these lines. They stated that you can start a fem on a 12/12 and it will grow just like an auto will, but it's a ticking clock, as soon as the roots hut rock (bottom of the pot) that's it, they assist the plant in triggering the flowering process.

I'm sure you'll still do fine as many others do with repotting autos @MrBill
As said many do with success.

There's always more than one way to skin a cat and I'm always open to considering different methods of approach. Just not to this one. The root vs circadian rhythm of autos decides this for me.

Anyway, do what you think is best and wishing you well with your 1st auto.

Is this a common thing over the pond now?
