Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
That’s what I mean mn I don’t want that to happen, if something fails I’ll have to kick down the door.
On the other hand fail safe will leave the door unlocked in case of failure, neither of those situations suits my needs unfortunately

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
Yeah all very nice and things I have thought about but again there’s a risk of getting locked out, the way I look at it anything electronic can and will fail at some point, if it fails I don’t want to be breaking down doors to get in.
It needs to happen inside the door handle on the outside of the door, that way if it locks out I can quietly unscrew the 4 screws on the handle and let myself in, nobody else in the house would have heard a thing.
I’m sure the original idea is the best, that square rod that joins the two handles together and activates the mechanism, one end of that rod needs to be round so the handle doesn’t engage, then a hole drilled into the side of the shaft for a pin to drop into. then a magnet placed on top of the handle pulls a steel pin out of the rounded shaft and into the inside of the handle making the mechanism turn

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
I’m sure it hasn’t got anything to do with handle on actual door it’s in top cornered door you wave card in front and it open I take it works with magnetsVador wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 10:27 pmSounds interesting, thank you.Momma bear wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 8:49 pmohhh I definitely got you..its on amazon and as soon as i get off podcast Ill up load the link..its a keyless entry lock..so to unlock my weed cabinet I wave a card or a circle that goes on my key chain.. battery ran and has worked perfectly.
when it’s locked and you pull the handle will the handle move or will it lock in the up position?
I want to give the impression it’s a faulty mechanism and there’s a knack to opening it, when someone tries it I want the handle to move down still but the mechanism doesn’t open the door if that makes sense

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
I was thinking just this the other day and I am building a 2nd wall in my groom for more covert operations lol and security.MrNice wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 8:17 pmeasy vad use a Mag Lock on the inside of the door hide the switch that turns it on and off some where
An electromagnetic lock, magnetic lock, or maglock is a locking device that consists of an electromagnet and an armature plate. There are two main types of electric locking devices. Locking devices can be either "fail safe" or "fail secure". A fail-secure locking device remains locked when power is lost.
I was just going to KISS keep it simple stupid.
Exactly that! Use a bathroom door bolt, a loose ish one, or you can fettle to fit. Then counterbore and glue in a magnet, then all you need is a few spare somewhere.
Obviously check it all out and don't lock yourself out your own groom pmsl

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
....also you could have more than one of these bolts...
I also intended on using a code door lock on top too.
Then I'll have 3 doors to contend with PMSL

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
Could you not put one of these bolt type locks behind a standard door handle so you dont see the opening hole ( which is about 7 to 8mm round on mine ) then you just remove a few screws to open it up or lock it down and put handle back when done and its hidden behind it real stealthy like. I have one on spare bedroom where all my grow gear and feed barrel is, but its not hidden stealthy behind handle, but i did leave the brass outer cover off and the hole is hardly noticeable, but hidden behind a handle and its proper bingo i would think, i mean fuck knows if it can be done, but i can`t see why not.

Re: Idea for stealth door lock?
Got some bits ordered today ready to make a start, I keep meaning to make a drawing of what I’m on about but just haven’t had a chance yet, I’ll see if I can get something drawn tonight, fusion360 isn’t free anymore or I’d just cad it up in ten minutes, got to do it the old fashion way with pencil and paper
