Choppy Days

Post by weedabix »

So I chopped the Pineapple Express Auto. The trichomes looked ready and I agonised over whether to chop or not, but luckily people in the chat helped me out (I think Nanook and Keeno) - thanks for your advice. Considering I always had some sort of isssue and never really figured out what was wrong, I am kind of happy about the harvest - it'll be enough for my personal use and that was the goal. She smelled very pungent! I think like overripe fruit maybe pineapple but the one that's already a little brown! I've never smelled anything like it! Because the tent is still having the Blue Dream Auto in it, I built a drying box (inspired by this forum!). It's foam board glued together with hot glue gun and duct tape, with a pc fan and some soldering carbon filters. I also attached two little hygrometers. Unfortunately the filters aren't quite up to the task and the flat still smells a bit, but I think it's good enough for now. I chopped and only took off the big fan leafs which left me with 135g. I think I'll probably end with under 20 g - not much but better than a kick in the nuts!

The Blue Dream looks good. Lower leafs are getting yellow and the top leafs are getting a dark edge - is this normal? I started flushing as most trichomes are milky already. Most pistils are still white and the whole appearance isn't very frosty but the plant looks a lot bigger and I expect more yield from it. It's still not smelling only very lightly like e.g. blackberry leafs. Ideally she's ready in a week! Fingers crossed!

Sorry I might have overdone it with the pictures - I'm just chuffed to have my own weed and can't stop staring at the plants!
I'm sure I'll manage to keep my next journal shorter!

Congrats on the succesful harvest if you decide to stick with soil, shoot me a pm and I guarantee we'll get you a much bigger harvest next time.

If you don't mind buying 5 or 6 amendments and mixing your soil, it's pretty much foolproof and water only for the entire grow

I'd be happy to mentor you

Hey man, that sounds awesome - I'd love to learn more about soil! I'll get back to you! The blue dream did much better, so hopefully the harvest will be much better as well. I don't know when I'll have a next go as I will probably move country and sadly I am forced to have a break growing. But after that I'll go all in - and yeah I'd love to try out making my own soil!

Hi all,
so the pineapple express is dried and in a jar. I'm not thrilled about the yield on this one, only 18g dry and without the popcorn - but better than nothing I guess. I'll let it cure for a little while before I'll try it, I still have some black market weed to finish off anyways. I started flushing the Blue dream when I cut the Pineapple express, exactly one week ago. It's now getting really yellow and I am worried I started a bit early with that. The trichomes are mostly cloudy but I think some are still clear - let me know if you disagree... I'm aiming for all cloudy. It looks pretty cool, albeit not very frosty and not much of a smell.

I'm just turning the trim and larf into butter, I have decarbed it for 90 min at 95ºC and now it's at 85ºC in butter - all in a vaccuum bag.

Stay safe out there - I think it's gonna get a bit grim the next couple of weeks.

Those are nowhere near done imo, looks like 3 more weeks left in them. What does the breeder say about harvest time?
9-11 weeks I'd imagine, thats about standard but depends of course

Keep in mind if you made any mistakes early in flower it usually takes longer overall to finish

Just my 2 cents though

Also, what makes you think they are not finished?

Just how the plant looks overall. Still pushing out pistils, pistils are mostly white, pistils haven't started receding yet. The calyx's are still swollen and also haven't started to shrink/recede either
These are all things that you look at when determining ripeness, trichome color is also one of those things

Personally I don't even check trichomes until all the other stuff I mentioned is happening. Over time you'll get better at knowing, just takes a few harvests

Also, you can try googling diarys of same strain that others have grown and compare to when they chopped to give you a better idea

That all makes sense... I went for the trichomes as I don't have experience with all the other signs and that sounded more straight forward. I am on day 71 and a lot of grow diaries on growdiaries.com are indicating harvest around that time... but that varies from 9 weeks up to 20 weeks !! So I don't know what to make of it. Initially I also worried that my flat was going to be inspected on Monday for some energy thing, but with covid that would be pretty easy to shrug off. If I wanted to keep her around for another couple of weeks, should I feed her again? Or keep on just watering? She is obviously quite hungry!
