In this video, Dr. Bruce Bugbee discusses how sensitive different types of crops are to light pollution during their prescribed dark periods. This lecture is not about photoperiod requirements, but the tolerance different species have to even a tiny light leak at night. Light leaks can be devastating to flowering and can even cause hermaphrodites. Bruce describes the research that has been done on this topic, as well as gives a rules-of-thumb for light pollution and shows some instruments that can be used to ensure your plants are getting the level of darkness they need for maximum health

I'd be more curious about how short a night can be:
After all it turns out earth's days have been much shorter in the remote past when life started to emerge... If it worked that would represent significant gains both in terms of energy saving + life-cycle, which in turn might help defeat The Borg by finishing flowering before an infestation is done destroying the harvest. I just wonder.
