LAB, rice wash

First time trying this, not sure if this is alright. After watching Chris Trump and a few others my 3 day old rice wash has a white layer on top of it. Chris Trump's didn't look like anything was on top, another one I watched said that there should be a thin layer on top. My layer looks much thicker and I'm wondering if this is OK or should I throw it out and try again.

Everyone says that it should smell sweet. Mine just smells about like rice when it's cooking.

If you reduce the amount of hash you consume in order to preserve your glass you've missed the whole point.

The hash is more important than the glass.

rice steam smell makes me think maybe trichoderma. but id probably try it anyways and see what happens. or just start again. mine had a sour dough kinda twang

i guess depends how much playing ya wanna do

I'm just trying to get some of this KNF stuff figured out before my next run. Anything I do between now and then is how much playing I'm gonna do.

Ok, since it doesn't smell sour I'm going to go ahead and add the culture to some milk tonight. What's the worst that can happen? I have to throw it out and start over.

looks right to me

i think worst case is you grow mold on the curds tbh. nice clean separation and your good to go

Just reminded me I had some at the back of my fridge.

Need to make some more soon.

You can do some IMO with thge left over rice...?

The wife wanted rice for dinner that night so I cooked it after doing the wash.

I am thinking about doing some IMO next though. Going to have to get something to make sure critters don't get at the rice first.

Yeah I watched Chris Trump’s on you tube.

He makes a box with wooden sides and an open top.

Maybe that will give you some idea 💡 You will soon find it on YT
