hope that helps :D

wicking beds are kinda more what youd use for fabric pots tho

that pic is well over engineered

you just need a deep tray of clay balls you sit the fabric pots on

Anyone know owt about SIP growing? WHat to look out for, pros cons etc.

I see lots of stuff batted about in chat, and there's a pipe in a pot in diaries here and there, but be cool to have it here for reference.

I'm thinking about trying the GHO living soil mix and was pondering doing it SIP style.

So say I do 50L fabric pot (for example) what's the best way to set the SIP up?

Ideas, stoner engineering etc etc.

:thanks:
I'll be starting experiments with sips in a couple of weeks mate. If you want to start a sips specific thread I'll be happy to contribute.

My idea for a fabric pot is a plastic quality Street tub (the ones you see at Christmas ) in the bottom of the pot as a reservoir tiny holes drilled into the lid for air and a wick coming out of the top. Corrugated pipe as the refill pipe. Thinking the corrugating might help to get oxygen into the water as you refill. If not an airstone down the tube into the reservoir.

I've heard a lot about these. I believe they're great but a pig to set up.

How about a 20L bucket from the hydro shop... Fill the bottom with clay balls, drain hole for the water level, root fabric and then fill the pot with mud?

Not forgetting the watering tube of course.

Is it really that simple?
I'd say go bigger buddy, I think anything under 40l will require more attention as it won't be big enough to be self sufficient.

I've seen that one and I've been doing some reading about sips lately. Would be good to have a few people running experiments simultaneously and a dedicated thread so we can sort out what works long term. My main thing is saving time, with trying to push GHO forward my garden and allotment have gone awry this year. Having sips running properly will mean that I can water both weekly and do all my other stuff without worrying about watering every day in summer.
