Is it ok to re-use coco?

Post by Tom1974 »

Guy in my grow shop said to me earlier- save your money and just reuse my pots of coco on my next run

He said since I had been using cannazym throughout my grow and flushed at the end it would be absolutely fine to use again and again once I got the root balls out.

So I didn’t pick any up and thought- if anyone knows it would be the great folk on here!

Cheers guys

Tom

An old timer who was stood behind me joined in and said he had been doing so for years and due to the cannazym being used there are hardly any roots compared to when he didn’t use that

The ball is like a tennis ball size he said but that leads me to my next question- Is this a good thing?

I thought the more roots the better?

Yes you can reuse your coir.

I just extract the taproot and bit of stem left after chopping and away we go.

Just break it all up into an old canna bag and grab a pot full when needed.

I just rip out old roots nothing spectacular theirs always plenty left in coco but big root ball type thing comes out, jobs a good en, i then just used to run it under hot water tap for few minutes and all i did then was just plant out straight into it after flushing out old fert salts but growth is slow, but it works fine.

I now just charge it up and buffer it with calmag, so after I've flushed out old salts, basically i just then soak it in calmag 1.4/6ec or 3ml a litre of calmag brand that i use and i do that overnight, it really helps with speedy growth on plants me thinks as well as buffering it to right ph which i set around 5.8.

Check out first few posts here it has pictures explaining it a bit viewtopic.php?f=26&t=18766

Nice one mate I will check it out now

Not so much bothered about the money saving or work/effort required but if there is absolutely no negatives in reusing it then I guess it saves me loading and unloading conspicuous bags to and from my car on show to the world
