Rik's Garlic Bug Spray

Post by Guest »

So. We started with these ingrediants here:
  • 3 Garlic Bulbs (skinned)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar 1/4 cup
  • Water
So I bashed up all of the garlic then placed it in a 1/2 Litre kilner jar with a breathable lid. See above :oik!:

1-2 weeks. Leave it to ferment.

Then into a bullit type liquidizer with the ACV and 1 cup of water. I then added some more out of a 2nd cup as it wouldn't fit in

I then let it ferment another 24 hours with a lid on. You can see all the sedement fall to the bottom.

A fine sieve strained it off but if you are careful you can get most easily but not disturbing the sediment on the bottom.

Watch, it STINKS! Especially if you dislike garlic.

After that in the fridge it goes. My partner hasnt found out, yet! :ak:

Anyway, I would like to make a disclaimer that I haven't tried this on everything yet  but it seems to nuke the bugs without affecting too much else. Time will tell.

Thanks for stopping by.

Rik, you may want to look at a chilli version. Certainly friendlier on the nostrils.

Thanks @The Aspie Toker

I may look at the chilli, as I have sweet chilli growing..but I can't have hot ones anymore, as of my stomach. Showing my age or some shit :bang head: so I don't tend to have them laying around at hand anymore.

I am going to start a rosemary grow to go with it. It'll offset and smell more like Sunday roast

I read somewhere about garlic containing enzymes that can be beneficial too. I shall have to put the thinking cap on and go find it again to share here.

In the wonders of Rik's rabbit holes......🕳

Might be worth looking at Cedar, rosemary, and orange oils too. There's a few that impact insects really hard and one that breaks down their cells too but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. I did a batch last year and it smashed the aphids so hard this year that two months on they still haven't come back.

I have heard of Cedar, it's what they use in pencils traditionally. Love the smell of cedar wood. I have my rosemary seeds ready so I can ferment some and add it too my garlic.

Not heard of the orange oils though, nice one :thanks: The amount of orange peel that gets wasted, I eat loads  In fact that reminds me to order my bokashi bins.

I did look into cedar bark mulches mate, but they all sprayed or treated as it's used for landscape gardening a lot. If you could get hold of some maybe something worth adding to your menu :idn:
