Bud Washing - The Doc Bud Method

Post by Viz » Fri Dec 21, 2018 7:16 pm

For those who are new to this, here's my method:

4 buckets total. (5 gallon buckets are perfect)

Bucket 1: 3 parts RO water to 1 part 3% H202.
Bucket 2: 5 gallons of RO with 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup Lemon Juice
Buckets 3 and 4: RO only.

Cut down plants, pull off fan leaves by hand, remove any necrotic leaves. Leave sugar leaves and anything with frosting on the plant.

Fully submerge in bucket 1 (H2O2) for 30 seconds. Submerge for a full minute if you had ANY sign of PM or bud rot. Let water drip from buds and then.....

Fully submerge in buckets 2 through 4 for 30 seconds each...lightly agitating the whole time.

Allow produce to drip dry. You can blow a fan on it if you like, just make sure it's blowing clean air.

Hang and dry per usual.

Final manicure of buds is best done after they dry. It goes very fast and you're left with washed, highly resinous trim....makes superb joints. I'm also educating my customers to select untrimmed buds, which are actually better than the manicured ones because they still have sugar leaves attached. The trichomes in the leaves have more THC than those in the buds.....so it's good to get the whole spectrum in there.

I give instructions for this in my journals, as I do it every single week, on every single harvest. Once you try it, you'll never go back.

This works so well for a couple reasons:

1. takes off dirt, foliar sprays, bugs, fiberglass dust, etc.
2. fully hydrates the leaves, allowing photosynthesis to occur for a day or two on cut and trimmed buds. I recommend leaving a light on the buds for the first day or two after washing.

This results in very, dense, clean burning, smooth tasting produce! That's the basic recipe....and I'm tweaking and changing it all the time.

Warning: Do NOT use an "organic produce wash" that is based on oils! They sell these in grocery stores and health food stores, and while they might be good for lettuce and cukes....the oil removes resin from the plants.....don't use it!

Water will not harm resin....oil can and does.

Now I want to just add that I have done this from my second harvest. It makes a whole heap of difference... You will be amazed at the amount of shit that comes off your plants. And yes I do have filters on my fresh air intakes.

The words above are Doc Buds own. Thank you mate and more power to the Doc.

Photosynthesis on buds that are already cut off the plant?? That makes less sense than donald trump being president of the united states

So just out of curiosity, do you literally disenfect your buds and then cook them under a grow light? I mean, I've heard of water curing before but that's about it.

Just wondering because I thought the general consensus was light degrades thc, after harvesting that is

All you need to do is simply prepare your buckets before you do the chop.

Chop plants.
Follow the steps dipping and swirling the plants in the buckets and hang up to dry as per normal in a dark place.
Dry till your desired level - will maybe take one day more.
Cure as per normal.

That is it.

I’ve been washing my harvest for years. I don’t bother with RO tho. I always used distailled water but now just straight from the tap.

Bud washing is well worth doing imo :)

You do not need bucket one if you have no powdery mildew and if you have bud rot you just bin the affected buds anyway.
As chew says tap water works just fine so just 3 buckets will make a real difference to your bud.

Wish I would have seen this before, this is from doc's website. The amounts of lemon juice and baking soda are way different. Hopefully this won't fuck up my harvest I used a full cup of each

To each their own, but I won't be doing it again. No rot but the buds took an eternity to get dry enough to cure (high humidity where I live) plus it definitely took away from potency
My last batch with no washing blew this batch out of the water

All 3 buckets were sticky as fuck after I was done, meaning that I lost a bunch of trichomes. I was pretty gentle too

Like I said, not bashing anyone that does it but it ruined my harvest. 5 ounces of unsmokable, dank looking bud

It happens I guess.. Just frustrating because so many people say good things about it. I think at the actual ratios it would be fine but I won't be risking it again.

That's rubbish is that Josh, sorry dude.

I had to do it last time cause I had a fan blowing plastic all over the place, where it had been rubbing itself off on itself... (the doirty bugger).

My dope seems ok, no worse for it, but it has lost a certain something. The underlying funk seems to be taking longer to get there in the cure.

If that makes sense? :idn:

I know what you mean, it usually only takes a week to ten days on the rack and then a week in the jars for mine to be good to smoke. I have a fine blowing on mine on the racks, going on 2 weeks now. It literally won't dry, lmaooo

I had issues this year as did someone else I know due to the humidity outside - possibly an issue for you as well?

It definitely was. But the buds being soaked didn't help. I hang dried them with a fan as well
